Version: Fund Manager 7.5
"Nothing else like it for the money!!!"
Pros: I searched high and low for portfolio management software. Fund Manager is the only portfolio management software that met my requirements and sold for under $500. Fund Manager's is AIMR compliant. That means that its financial calculations like yield and rate of return comply with the financial industries standards.
Most popular financial software does NOT calculate investment returns correctly. If you have transactions during the evaluation period, which most real world portfolios do, most other software packages calculate investment return rates incorrectly. Therefore, you really do not know how your portfolio is doing.
Fund Manager downloads your transactions from many financial institutions.
Reporting flexibility is a strength. The variety of data fields available to set up your own reports is incredible. I have been able to set it up in a way that lets me track my portfolio in many different ways. In addition, I get the information I need to help me make investment decisions.
Finally, I got great telephone support. They took the time to answer my questions. It is a small operation so sometimes they could not answer my call. I left a message. I always got a return call the same day.
Cons: The software is not as user friendly as it could be. Perhaps because there is so much data and so many options it can take time to figure out what to do.
Sometimes I have missed getting a transaction downloaded from my broker. I have not been able to figure out if this problem is caused by my broker or by the software. It happens infrequently but it means that I always have to double check for data integrity. I used to use Quicken that had a somewhat similar problem. That makes me think that it is a broker issue.
