"Works very well !"

May 10, 2013  |  By conejito123

 |  Version: Free Registry Defrag 3.0

Pros

I have tried many, and this one actually beat other 'big name' products. Surprising but true.

Cons

None at all that I see! Windows 7 no problem.

Summary

Updated on May 10, 2013

van is wrong - even 2% fragmented can slow you down.

"Excellent!"

March 16, 2013  |  By Rioismycat

 |  Version: Free Registry Defrag 3.0

Pros

I tested this software on a Windows 7 computer, said my registry was 8% fragmented, then after the defrag only 1%, noticeable difference in boot time after, much faster than before!, all i can say is that it did work on my computer with no faults whatsoever!

Cons

I can find no faults with this software, it actually did improve my boot time!

Summary

It worked for me!

Updated on Mar 16, 2013

PS:, i also just found out that Softpedia also tested an older version of this software out with very good results!, it worked for them, and it worked for me!

"Snakeoil for rubes"

March 16, 2012  |  By VanguardLH1203

 |  Version: Free Registry Defrag 3.0

Pros

None. No registry defragger has value.

Cons

Risks the stability of your OS for imperceptible difference in load time for registry's .dat files.

Summary

Defragging the registry will do nothing to change the performance of your Windows host. The registry gets copied into memory and it is the memory copy that gets accessed by processes. Since memory is RAM (random accessed memory), the time to access one byte from the memory is the same as to access any other byte. Because the memory copy of the registry gets accessed, defragging the registry's .dat files on the hard disk will do nothing to alter performance of registry use after you have loaded Windows.

The only savings you get is from file load time: the time to load the .dat files off the hard disk and copy them into memory. This isn't some magic defrag operation. It's the same that you do when defragmenting any other files except these system files are use when Windows loads so you cannot defrag them while Windows is running. So what does a registry defrag program do? It schedules the defrag of the registry's .dat files at the start of Windows before those files are inuse. This is the same procedure performed by, say, SysInternals' "pagedfrg" utility (which is also freeware).

So a registry defrag is of no value after Windows has loaded and has copied the registry's .dat files into memory. Once in memory, access time is the same no matter where is the byte in memory. The amount of time you save to load the registry's .dat file on Windows startup might be a grand total of 1-4 milliseconds but other processes run in parallel so it's of dubious value that the .dat files will load faster while the change in load time is so imperceptible.

Defragmenting the registry's .dat files is something of interest to obsessive-compulsive types that need to tweak even when there is no real-world change or advantage for the tweak. It's like repeatedly hitting the cross-walk button and when it changes you feel like you made a difference - except the button isn't even connected. After maybe 10 years of use of an instance of Windows (i.e., you never did reinstalls in that time) and with the gradual bloat of the registry, there might be enough fragmentation of the .dat file to warrant its defrag so you can save all of 1-2 seconds in the startup time for Windows. If you want to defrag the registry at earlier intervals, remember that you are putting your OS at risk each time.

When committing this type of brain surgery on your OS, make sure you save an image of the OS partition. Then if the defrag screws up the ability to load your OS, you can restore from your backup image (provided you have a means of booting the restore program separate of the OS). Make sure you have an escape route.

"Complete time waster"

December 31, 2011  |  By Foosaboi

 |  Version: Free Registry Defrag 3.0

Pros

Easy install, no added toolbar or other nonsense.

Cons

Ran the scanner, it said the program could reduce the registry by 5%. Let it do its thing, and after a restart the registry size was actually BIGGER!!!

Summary

Program hasn't been updated in over a year now. Don't waste your time downloading this, it doesn't do what it claims.

"Compatibility Issues"

December 24, 2011  |  By Toolcaddy

 |  Version: Free Registry Defrag 3.0

Pros

Instructed me not to use due to a compatibility issue (so I am unable to truly rate this product).

Cons

Unable to use due to a compatibility issue that I was not aware of until after I scanned and clicked on the defrag button.

Summary

It would be better to know compatibility issues prior to downloading. Additionally, 1-click fix would be better. But I like the concept.

September 09, 2011  |  By DF.

 |  Version: Free Registry Defrag 3.0

Pros

Easy interface, effective process, clean and seamless operation

Cons

It does disable the PC for a few minutes while in operation,

Summary

I like this software and have used it for years. It is so effective, it gives the numbers of of the hive being compacted (defragged) and will advise you of the % of space saved. It requires a reboot - and you're done!

"Great tool"

July 24, 2011  |  By codemancjackson

 |  Version: Free Registry Defrag 3.0

Pros

Compacts registry and tells you after you scan if it even need a defrag so your not doing it for no reason

Cons

Forces a restart after the scan

Summary

Great tool I would recommend to anyone, you do have to be patient while it scans and it even says that it is not a good idea to use the computer while the process is taking place. after the scan it will tell you if it needs a compacting and how much space (if you need to do it) you will save by running the defrag. after that completes and you compact the registry the program will say it is finished, you hit an OK button and it instantly restarts so be careful if you were working on anything because you might lose it. overall very compact light weight and simple its best if you get a registry cleaner like ccleaner to help find old registry files so this program can be most effective. using this program may speed up your computer if has been sluggish lately. give it a try!

 |  Version: Free Registry Defrag 3.0

Pros

Doesn't pretend to be a monster app. It has a simple clean interface and it performs it's function well.

Cons

I don't get to see what it is doing or make any decisions whether to keep out of dates links.

Summary

It did what I wanted it to do... my computer runs faster after performing the defrag. Simple and painless.
