Version: Earthcomber USA (Palm OS) 2.9.3
"The program is freeware but you have to pay for the maps."
Cons: Tricky, tricky. Kind of like a free razor but you have to buy the blades. It comes with some sample data loaded in but if you want to see what it looks like in your neighborhood you'd better be prepared to pay for the map.

"There are fancy nav programs, but none better at FINDING stuff"
Pros: FYI...the program & the maps are free. You just have to create an ID, then pick maps, use the tray program to fetch them, then you just hotsync. After that, you just run the Updater and it checks for new info.
I like the fact that it's updated local info every day (like movie listings) and you can totally customize the lists to search for only the things you want.. It finds suff in the boonies, not just big cities.
Cons: Well, hmmm.... wish they gave me a free GPS with it ;-) One thing: the downloaded version is better at mapping, but it takes up like 15 MB if you d/l Los Angeles.
I find it easier to use the mobile web version. I just bookmarked it on my Treo. Then you never need to sync anything, and no space requirement.

Version: Earthcomber USA (Palm OS) 2.9.3
"Super fast new version runs on Palm browser"
Pros: Instead of all the download and hotsyncing, Earthcomber now is out on a browser version. The server does all the data processing your Palm did before. Blazingly fast, of course, on your Blazer browser. Go to:
mobile.earthcomber.comCons: The downloadable sill works fine, but does not display multimedia or photos, and of course takes up 10MB + . The new browser version *at this time* doesn't have GPS, but has very easy & clever alternatives, such as WiFi mapping, still has maps.
Summary: Get the new, easy to use Earthomber for Palm at mobile.earthcomber.com OR just go to your Palm Mobile portal and click it under "Local". Don't forget to bookmark for easy use right when you need to find something near you!
