Doxillion Document Converter from NCH Software is a free tool for converting documents to and from the most commonly needed file formats. It can convert DOC, DOCX, HTML, PDF RTF, TXT, and WPD documents into DOC, DOCX, HTML, PDF, RTF, and TXT files, singly or in batches of thousands. It integrates with right-click menus in Explorer and also supports drag and drop. It can even attempt to repair corrupted documents as it converts them, potentially rescuing data. It's totally free and needs no other software to run, but it also integrates with NCH's other tools.

Doxillion is very easy to use, with a big green plus sign for adding files to the main list view. Highlighting entries in this list displayed their properties in the right-hand sidebar. We browsed to an output folder in the entry field beneath the main view, and then selected an output format and encoder options. All that was left to do was press Convert. Doxillion quickly processed our batch and saved the output to our selected directory. A button labeled Open output let us open the target folder directly from the interface (right next to the Convert button) which we found a very useful option, especially when saving documents to more than one destination. The toolbar icons let us remove files as well as add them, and also access the program's options. These cover Overwrite settings, Conversion formats and errors, Right-Click behavior, and choices like whether to play sounds. There's a good HTML-based Help file as well as buttons labeled Burn to Disc and Suite. Clicking Burn to Disc will download and install a disc-burning utility, while Suite opens the NCH Software Suite, a selection of the developer's titles.

We've tried many of NCH's tools and always found them to be good performers. Doxillion Document Converter is no exception. It may not convert a zillion document types, but it does a fine job with those file types that most people need most often.

    "Beware of Doxillion!!"

    June 16, 2013   |   By Dean33414

    Version: Doxillion Document Converter 1.14

    Pros

There are none. Everything they purport to do can be done with other standard software.

    Cons

    Malware.

Takes over your pdf downloading process.

Bombards you with ads for other NCH products.

Starts off with a mandatory "free" download that turns out to be a trial version.

    Summary

Soon after I downloaded Acrobat X, I was required to download Doxillion before I was able to download pdf documents. So I did and downloading pdf documents became cumbersome and confusing. It then required six or seven additional time-consuming procedures to download and "convert" a simple document.

And soon there came an onslaught of ads for other NHC software. Then came a notice that I had downloaded the "Trial Version" of Doxillion and that I would need to purchase the full version.

I then realized I was dealing with malware.

I reinstalled/repaired Adobe Acrobat and uninstalled Doxillion and all the other NCH software that had infected my computer.

    DO NOT DOWNLOAD DOXILLION!!

IF NHC INFECTS YOUR ADOBE SOFTWARE (AS THEY DID MINE) YOU WILL BE TOLD YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DOWNLOAD A FREE ADD-ON. DON'T!! INSTEAD REINSTALL ADOBE.

    "Fair, for small documents"

    June 08, 2013   |   By issachar5

Version: Doxillion Free Document Converter 2.08

    Pros

Works well and quickly for small documents. Easy and straightforward to use.

    Cons

Will begin larger documents, and quit part of the way through, wasting your time.

    Summary

Fair; it might be that the paid program will work well for larger documents, but (of course) one can never be sure until you buy it and try it.

    "DOXILLION MALWARE ALERT!!!"

    March 24, 2013   |   By hotsprig297

Version: Doxillion Free Document Converter 2.04

    Pros

    very few pros

    Cons

Malware warning - NCH software "Doxillion"

This is badly destructive and poorly behaved, and microsoft is part of the problem since the automatic application search feature links to this (instead of the correct microsoft word document converter which works fine) and windows doesn't offer up a way to undo the damage caused without rolling the system back to a restore point created before the installation.

    Summary

    DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!

    "Concur very sneaky malware."

    January 06, 2013   |   By mrquickbooks27

Version: Doxillion Free Document Converter 2.02

    Pros

NONE...except it wasn't too hard to remove once I happened to see the strange shortcut on my desktop.

    Cons

NCH downloaded "Fast Fox" automatically when I downloaded a typing tutorial from NCH software. Subsequently when I tried to run Open Office Writer it said I needed Doxillion to run (I never needed this before or after!)

I then happened to notice the Fast Fox shortcut on my desktop that was new...Upon removing Fast Fox my problems went away

    "Sneaky Malware."

    November 25, 2012   |   By DavisBrown

Version: Doxillion Free Document Converter 2.02

    Cons

Installs other random programs that I did not approve of and as far as how I even GOT this program is mysterious.

    "terrible !"

    August 28, 2012   |   By G12670

    Version: Doxillion Document Converter 1.14

    Pros

there are NO pros that I can think of, this program stinks

    Cons

It's definitely NOT free. I had a trial version, buying costs me something over 22 euros. For a program that does NOT work. I tried converting a PDF-document into TXT; the program accepts the pdf, then acts like it is converting, then saves your converted txt-file. Look it up, and you get a file that contains... 3 ( three ) bytes.

    Summary

Better to look elsewhere for a program that mustn't be free, it just has to do its job.

    "Does What it Says"

    April 08, 2012   |   By aschmidt21

    Version: Doxillion Document Converter 1.11

    Pros

Free. Quickly changes Word Perfect files into Word files.

    Cons

Doesn't preserve formatting. And, on a practical note, be sure to specify a destination folder.

    Summary

A life-saver for old documents, though a bit of work reformatting.
