    "Only allows one account"

by rlprlp on January 14, 2007

Pros: Appears as though it would be fairly easy to use, but I uninstalled it after about 20 minutes because...

Cons: ... Unless I missed something, you can only have one account, unless you upgrade to the paid-for version. So, you can't even have 1 checking and 1 savings account. One account only.

    Version: Checkbook Ease Freeware 1

"Works well, with a little creativity"

by uleubner on March 24, 2007

Pros: The free version of this program is somewhat limited. The single "account" that comes set up is really one file, it has 5 pre-created bank accounts. (Two checking, one savings, one money market, two credit card.) You can't rename these accounts, or add more accounts.

Nevertheless, I find this to meet my needs adequately. I assigned each of my accounts to one of their pre-created accounts.(One checking, one checking that I use for cash, one savings, one money maker, one mastercard, and one discover that I used the "Visa" for.) This covers all of the accounts I use for my normal life. I changed the starting balance to where I was, and then I was on my way, with a well-functioning system.

I particularly like that this program isn't bloated with the ads and extra features that the big-name personal finance programs have these days. I don't want to be signed up for their credit card, I just want to track my money, and this program does that without fuss.

Cons: With the free version, you're limited to five bank accounts, and you can't rename them. The paid version is fairly cheap, and promises to add those features, plus a few others. For myself, I find the free version does what I want. At some point, I may move up to the paid version, but I don't see the need at the moment.

Ideally, I'd love to be able to have as many accounts as I wanted, with whatever names I assigned.

You also can't "archive" with the free program. "Archive" being a way to retire accounts no longer in use.

The "balance account" feature seems a bit wonky, too. If I go to start using it, I can't get back out of it if I decide I don't want to balance. I have no idea if this works better with the paid version.

    Version: Checkbook Ease Freeware 1

    "Looks pretty, but...."

    by user111111111111 on February 27, 2007

Pros: This is very attractive, but....

    Cons: USELESS.

You can not add or delete sample accounts. So, you have to use what they have setup. Everything else requires you to buy the Premium version. Downloading is a waste of time.
