"This used to be a good program."
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
flags programs needing updates.
Cons
Too many 'false positives'.
Now the program puts out a window asking for some program or other to be running in order to download updates. Very confusing. I'll be uninstalling and using something else.Summary
Something has gone wrong with this program.

"TechTracker"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Does a good job of monitoring software for the latest updates
Cons
Often reports software being out of date when it is not. A current example is Advanced System Care which is showing out of date but is not. I checked at the website and I am up to date
Summary
This app would be perfect if not for the above flaw.
-
"Definitely not ready for prime time"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Lists software for which updates are available.
Cons
Terrible process - it is far easier to go to directly to each software site and update from there.
Summary
Close to useless.

"Can not compare current and update release numbers"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Tracks more software than FileHippo's Update Checker.
Cons
Does not show you your current release or version number so you can make a judgement on whether or not to update. Example, if my Picasa is version 3.9.135.78 do I really want to bother downloading 14MB to get version 3.9.135.83 and take the time to install it? NO! FileHippo's Update Checker does show you the two versions so you can see if a significant version change has been made. De-installed stupid TechTracker.

"Well-designed resource"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Works in the background but can be disabled if required. Thorough. It doesn't take much to set it up as YOU require - mainly it's a case of 'hiding' the updates you don't want.
Cons
Unless disabled starts up with windows - this can be annoying with a slow start-up. We need one for Linux! Oh. And it sometimes misses that you already HAVE the latest update - but this may be my fault in not adjusting a setting.
Summary
This resource works well with Win 7 and Vista and, as far as I know, previous versions of Windows (XP for sure). I use it on four computers - two desktops and two laptops - and it differentiates between the machines as well as the OSs. In other words, there are four TechTrackers specifically set up for me in my account (FREE!). Given that I use automatic updates from MS and occasionally run ASC Pro through the systems, it was a pleasant surprise to discover that they don't clash. Another good service/resource from CNET

"Easy to get software updates in one place."
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Don't have to hunt out updates myself, nice idea.
Cons
Not found any yet.
-
"Doesn't work as advertised"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Convenient place to get updates for most software apps.
Cons
App requires user to get downloads from browser instead of the app itself. Some apps require user to go to their site to get downloads, others won't download correctly from CNET site.
-
"Quick update info"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Gives update information on software. Able to hide/ignore items that there is no need to update. Handles downloads and installs through software.
Cons
Haven't run into any yet. Only problems have been with the updates of the software on the PC.
-
"Just about good enough"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Tracks updates and gives version number and release date.
Easy and quick to use.
Provides direct links to downloads.Cons
Appears only to list updates for irems available from Cnet.
Summary
There are better applications available for free download, with more functionality and identify updates across the board including drivers.

"Works great"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
It helps keep track of my downloaded programs, ensuring that they are always up-to-date.
Cons
It actually doesn't track ALL of my downloaded programs, and I'm not quite sure why, but it does track most of them.
Summary
Well worth the quick little download.
