This free Firefox add-on is supposed to let you block certain Web sites. But what is actually does is block every single site you attempt to visit.
BlockSites plain interface is fairly straightforward, which is good since there's no Help menu. It allows you to enable warning messages for blocked sites, set up your password, and manage your lists of allowed and blocked sites. The program, though simple in design, seemed flexible at first, allowing you to add, edit and even import and export Web site links. We added sites to both the Black- and Whitelists, but the program blocked each site that we tried to visit regardless of which list it was on. Ultimately, we had to disable the program to visit any sites at all.
Don't bother with this one. It doesn't work and you'll merely waste time setting up lists.
Publisher's description
From Erik van Kempen :BlockSite is an extension, which automagically blocks Web sites of your choice. Additionally, this extension will disable all hyperlinks to these Web sites, by just displaying the link text without the clicking functionality. This extension should by no means be used for parental control or access control purposes, just because it isn't secure and can easily be disabled or even removed. This extension adds the site blocking functionality that was removed from Adblock Plus. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.
CNET Editor's Note: The Download Now link will prompt a local download of the Firefox extension. To install the extension directly, open the file using your Firefox browser.

This software version | All versions -
Version: BlockSite 0.6
Pros: It works and blocks the sites I choose, I like how you can set it to either block bad sites or only allow the ones you choose, basically great for parents with young children. I also love how you can password protect it.
Cons: I would like to be able to right click in a site and add it to the blocklist.

Version: BlockSite 0.6
"BlockSite is an essential!!!"
Pros: It really works! It blocks advertising sites that load while you are net surfing. Having unwanted sites load onto your computer is the ultimate annoyance, i.e.Pulse360.com is an annoyance that BlockSite eliminates. It will block any site you request.
Cons: It does not work with Firefox 3.5
Summary: I installed Firefox 3.5 only to discover that BlockSite did not work with the new version. I re-installed Firefox 3.0.1.2, now surfing is great again!
