CNET Editors' review
The new version of this indispensable product doesn't introduce revolutionary changes, but it doesn't have to. As the low-end PDF reader, it simply keeps up with Acrobat Professional and Standard. This release adds the ability to play back embedded multimedia files in MP3, QuickTime, Macromedia Flash, Real, and Windows Media formats, as well as to submit Adobe PDF forms. It also replaces some of the icons in the default interface with optional, dockable toolbars. You might as well install this now before a Web site you visit prompts you to download it, because you'll need it. "Decent but a bit ott"
Version: Adobe Reader 9.3.3
Pros
It opens pdf files which is why I wanted it.
Cons
All I wanted was to look at pdf files. I didn't need a download manager to install this. It's very much just a massive advert for its premium service and altogether too bloated.
Summary
Does the job it's required to, but not without the hassle.

Cons
This program works as intended.

"Starting to use the tricks of less reputable companies."
Version: Adobe Reader 9.3.3
Pros
If you keep it up to date, then it will work fine most of the time.
Cons
Surprise! You've been forced to download a propritetary "Download Manager", too. Surprise! You accidentally downloaded McAfee bloatware. Surprise! All your Adobe software is now re-set to automatically check for updates.

"Printing makes windows angry"
Version: Adobe Reader 9.3.3
Pros
It opens pdfs. Yay.
Cons
Whenever I try to print a pdf, Windows DEP closes it like it's a virus.
Summary
It's well and good to be able to read a pdf, but being able to print one is a fundamental requirement for my work, and it's just not working for me.
-
"Ok but don't get confused."
Version: Adobe Reader 9.3.3
Pros
Opens up PDFs for viewing and seems to work ok enough.
Cons
Doesn't create PDFs / not a PDF creator. Need www.docudesk.com or something like it to make them.
Summary
Good for reading, need deskPDF or something like it for creating a PDF

"ok. it works"
Version: Adobe Reader 9.3.3
Pros
It is a useful tool. I think it is OK! Nice program.
Cons
none before further use
-
"Completely lost"
Version: Adobe Reader 9.3.3
Pros
None, when you can't get it loaded.
Cons
Everything about it. I don't have the time, nor the knowledge base to do as Adobe prescribes. I started it, ran thru it once and it still didn't work. Keeps saying I'm missing something. Either an msi file or an IMAIL key.
Summary
I hate it, it doesn't work. I've always had problems with updating Adobe. It is either a battle or will create havoc somehow with my machine. What's so hard about giving a simple update? It seems to be the only one I have a problem with. I'm using Foxit Reader now and love it. Fast, reliable and very small resources, compared to Adobe.

Cons

"Yet another failed Adobe Installer... DLM NOT Wanted!!!"
Version: Adobe Reader 9.3.3
Pros
Decent reader otherwise not impressed at all!
Cons
The idiotic Download Manager is REQUIRED to install Adobe Reader... Not impressed. I don't NEED or WANT yet another download manager to install ANY software. Drop the McAfee installer with it too! Geez!
Summary
I have written software for over 32 years. It simply isn't necessary to require a Download Manager to install a piece of software.
I don't like someone installing a Download Manager... Period.
Please just give us the ability to have a NON-Download Manager Version.
Adobe does some pretty nice stuff overall... but the Download Manager part frankly pisses me off every time.
I'm about ready just to DUMP all versions of EVERYTHING related to Adobe UNTIL they drop their infatuation with the unwanted and unnecessary Download Manager!

"Adobe Reader's gem, when it works. Bearcat to fix."
Version: Adobe Reader 9.3.3
Pros
Everybody uses Adobe Reader. Is it because it is so good; or, ?
Cons
More than a few users of Adobe Reader have had issues with.
Summary
Adobe reader, when it works is a gem. When it fails to work, it is a bearcat to fix! As an alternative, I recommend FoxIt Reader, as a temp fix, or permanent replacement, if you finally give up on Adobe.
In fall of 2010, with Window 7 and a 64 bit machine, I had difficulty with an Adobe "automajic" update that required over four hours of system management to fix. Adobe's own web site reflect similar problems others have had ( http://forums.adobe.com/message/3046103 ). To uninstall Adobe Reader I used NoBeReader; and, with advice from Adobe (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408441.html ) had to jump through 25 hoops/steps to gain administrative authority, to remove an Adobe CMAP file. OUCH!
With limited sophistication, I expect many Adobe Reader users will give up on Adobe Reader's transparency when they hit the brick wall of Adobe's lack of transparency.
GOOD LUCK Adobe.
