Publisher's Description
From Macron software:
The best companion for your desk phone.
ABDialer is a smart software utility to automate the process of dialing phone numbers stored on the Mac OS X Address Book contacts. With a single click, it can dial the phone, avoiding the user to manually type phone numbers. No more misspelled numbers, just pick up the phone and talk. Main features include:
- Compatible with almost all analog modems, including the Macintosh Internal Modem
- Works with every mobile phone (Bluetooth, IrDa, etc.) recognized by Mac OS X
- Can optionally use the speaker to play DTMF touch-tones directly to the phone
- Smart dial rules and de-prefix technology to support phone rules for any country
- Predefined and customizables settings for all countries on world
- Include the ABDialer Menu to show the phonebook in main menu bar
- AppleScript support to be used as dialer from other applications
- Services menu to dial from Cocoa and Carbon enabled applications
- Ability to recognize "talking numbers" and ABCD touch-tones
- Always syncronized with Address Book changes
- Option to run as menu only without dock icon.
- Complete help and user guide integrated with the Mac OS X Help System
- Setup Assistant to do a step by step configuration

"The problem is that Apple modem is not compatible Lion"
Version: ABDialer 2.3.1
Pros
Does exactly what it says and what I need. I did not find anything comparable.
Cons
It lacks some options in the dial rules.
Summary
Works great for me on Lion. The problem is that Apple modem is not compatible with Lion. I am now using a USRobotics modem model 5637.

In email, Developer claims it works with Lion. But on two different machines it crashes on Launch since I did the Lion upgrade.

"5 years I was waiting for this"
Version: ABDialer 2.1.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Finally, the hibernation is over, and I was even upgraded for free. The new version works perfectly on my iMac and MacBook Pro, both under OSX 10.5.8. Simple, tenable, and elegant. In my opinion, the best in its category. -
"Another for the shareware graveyard"
Version: ABDialer 2.0

When I realized ABDialer was using Rosetta, I wrote to the developer asking about a Universal release or a recommendation for an alternative. The lack of a response was the last nail in the coffin for this otherwise useful application. -

The design and features are basic but nice. Orginally, I thought/hoped it would allow me to use the speakers and mic built into my G4 Mac (why would anyone ever want to use hardware that is built in???), but alas, the software is ONLY A PHONE DIALER. It does integrate to Contacts, BUT if you have a large address book, the software CRAWLS. Also, it crawls if you have the Address Book open at the same you are attempting to use the AB
software. Also, this software DOES NOT DO INBOUND CALLERID. Why it does not, well that remains a mystery. It does do some intersting bits and bobs with AIM/Chat, iCal, but these are superfluous to my day to day use.
The POP ups during configuration were a very nice touch.
I think I will just type in my own numbers, and save the storage space, CPU cycles, RAM, and $$$.

"Solid Upgrade"
Version: ABDialer 2.0
Summary

I've been using this product for quite a while. I use it to dial through my Filemaker database (ever since filemaker decided to drop that feature). This upgrade is very nicely implemented. -
"Lacks integration"
Version: ABDialer 1.1.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
ABDialer lacks direct integration with (into) the Address Book application unlike MacDialer. The menu extra menu takes too long to build (based on ~800 entries). Good flexibility in dialing rules. -

I love this app especially since I hacked an old script to get it working with Entourage. For anyone intersted, you can get the script here: http://www.simondorfman.com/Programs/EntourageDialPhoneScript/
