Editors’ Review
When pressing the power button is just too much trouble, this freeware executable controller comes to the rescue. XP Remote Timer's compact interface needs no instructions. A few seconds with this application and you'll have it set to operate on your computer on any system on your network. Soon you'll feel like a network demon shutting down or restarting systems from the safety of your office.
Operating this utility is very simple. Simply use toggles to set an option to Log Off, Shut Down, or Restart your system or any number of networked PCs. Adding the networked systems is a mere matter of entering their names, but you must have administrator privileges to each selected computer. Put together a list of systems and you can easily export all settings with a click. That makes it easy to have separate system groups for specific needs. The final step is as easy as the rest. Using simple up and down buttons, the countdown timer can be set for hours, minutes, and seconds, up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. You also can manually enter the time, but it's oddly limited to 9 hours, 9 minutes and 9 seconds.
Despite a few quirks, XP Remote Timer makes networked shutdowns a snap. System administrators and network technicians will get this most use out of this easy to use utility.
