  Summary

  Anyone who uses Windows file management tools like TeraCopy, and has tried to use them with Android devices running versions later than 2.0 "Gingerbread", has probably discovered to their dismay that when Google took over Android, they removed Mass Storage Mode and substituted Microsoft's "MTP/PTP" protocol as the only way to connect the device to a Windows PC with a USB cable. The issue with MTP is that Microsoft OS's, all the way back to DOS, use "drive letters" to map storage partitions, and MTP does not: to Windows Explorer, the storage in your Android phone or tablet under MTP is a "Device", not a "Drive", and Windows file management utilities like TeraCopy simply can not access it. So along comes "MTP Drive", a utility that is supposed to offer a workaround to this problem by mapping your Android device to an unused Drive letter. It works - kind of. After a couple of hours of painfully working through installation problems relating to the unsigned drivers supplied with the software, that Windows 7 initially refused to install, I was finally able to get MTP Drive to actually see and map both the internal and external MicroSD storage on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (KitKat 4.4.2). But when it came time to actually DO anything, like copying or synchronizing files back and forth between the tablet and the PC, MTP Drive failed completely. Neither TeraCopy nor WinMerge would work with MTP Drive's emulation. Maybe the author can fix this; if so I will try it again.
