FreeCommander includes way more functions than Windows Explorer, but it doesn't look nearly as good. It's cluttered with confusing buttons and lots of menus that you have to wade through. Once you get the hang of things, though, you'll find it to be a useful tool.
This program turns the traditional file menu into a split-screen file manager. That makes it so much easier to look at multiple folders at once. In addition to that, it's easy to drag files from one folder to another without accidentally making copies or messing things up. Initially, it's not easy to perform even the basic operations.
There are more than 30 buttons on the menu bar, and many of them link to features you'll only use once or twice if you use them at all. Luckily, you can customize several parts of the menu to make it fit your style. You can change what file folder the program starts with and the size and style of your file icons. FreeCommander even lets you set your own keyboard shortcuts and menu buttons for easier navigation.
While FreeCommander may seem overwhelming at first, its split-screen layout alone sets it apart from many other free file managers. Programs like Total Commander and XYplorer Free also feature dual-pane functionality, but FreeCommander stands out by offering its tools at no cost. Beyond simple file management, FreeCommander includes features like built-in ZIP file support, file preview capabilities, and tabbed browsing.
