"just grate!"

May 05, 2006  |  By download_me

 |  Version: eSnips 1.102

Pros

Esnips is grate service I have to agree with Reviewer: Raget (cons section) but never the less the service they provide is excellent 1GB free space yes 1 gigabyte. I think it's a grate service. If you are looking for a place to back-up some important files (anything really) then esnips is a good place. I have noticed negative comments about the toolbar, but for me the toolbar is really good and I found it easy to use. Overall I was happy with the service. My advice is to you is go to there website and see what others have done and maybe create a account and try it out.

"Help! Norton Won't Let Me Access The Program!"

April 14, 2006  |  By Son of Spam

 |  Version: eSnips 1.102

Pros

The reviews looked positive so I had downloaded the program. Once I had installed it, my Norton Internet Security asked if I wanted to "Block Access Always (Recommended)". Unfortunately I hit the "OK" button and now it won't let me access eSnips. Since I don't know whether this software is good or bad, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. But if anyone can tell me how to reconfigure Norton to allow me access to the program, it would be greatly apprecated, I realize this isn't the proper forum, but I wasn't sure where else to go.

By the way...when I try to Sign In to the program, I get the following message:

Unknown error 0x800A1521

Cons

See Above.

"Great free software product"

April 09, 2006  |  By goldengreeke

 |  Version: eSnips 1.102

Pros

You can upload, share, and publish just about anything under a GB. CableguyTK said it all. I can't think of a thing to add that he didn't say.

Cons

However, in the next version, the software writer need to make this work with out the tool bar. Many of us users only use Opera as our default browser. I won't use IE until it becomes more safe and secure, maybe when Windows Vista comes out next year.

"Its better than Yahoo! My Web 2.0 Beta. Another niche product though."

April 09, 2006  |  By CableguyTK

 |  Version: eSnips 1.102

Pros

Its free.

Its a service which many people want: a storage area for one to save images from the web, images from home, webpages, etc. You are given 1GB with which to upload stuff from home or the web.

Lets you make stuff private and/or public, your choice.

The options on what to save are very nice: save picture, save webpage, save link to page, save highlighted image or text, and take a screencapture in a defined area to upload to the server.

Quite easy to upload pictures from home.

Uploading is not just a send-file process. The process includes a recommended tagging process, where you give certain search terms which the content you are uploading will appear on the search page for. This really helps to avoid modifying pictures later.

The search bar searches for content on the eSnips website.

Its better than Yahoo! Web Beta in my opinion, which is basically the same kind of service, however it is limited to uploading just copies of a webpage directly from the web.

Cons

The product description fails to mention 1) that it includes the necessary Internet Explorer toolbar, 2) requires that the software requires a login (which is free) to the site. Two things which aren't major but should be noted in the product description.

The toolbar is manditory. Would be neat to see some secondary means up achieving the features of this program. Maybe a running process with some right-click context menu entries which access the program?

The functions are only available in the toolbar, no right-click context menu entries.

Being that it requires the toolbar to get the full experience, it would seem one is limited to using IE with this software.

Uploading images from the web is the worst. Have to highlight the image (which isn't always possible with some webpages) then click the button in the toolbar to save selection. Would prefer an entry in the right-click context menu.

Considering that there is a feature to upload a LINK to a website, it would be neat in the future to see a feature to upload one's IE favorites for remote storage.

.

.

.

Im not really big on building a whole archive of stuff I like. I store it all locally...so I really dont feel the need for this software. But its the best Ive tried so far for this kind of service.

"Convenient and useful - and FREE!"

April 08, 2006  |  By crimsonchalk

 |  Version: eSnips 1.102

Pros

In terms of impact, I would put esnips on a par with the first time I created a gmail account or the first time I installed roboform - unique and indispensible. It's one of those tools that has no real equivalent rival - I have even used some similar paid-services and even they do not complete with the ease of the esnips toolbar. If you like to gather stuff (files, docs, photos) into catagories then this free service is for you.

Imagine this: you surf the internet and see an interesting article - what do you do? Usually copy and paste it or email the whole web page. With esnips you can just select the text you want and upload to your esnips account (and into whichever online folder you choose). If you want the whole page you can do that too with one or two clicks. If you want part of the page - maybe a photo and some text - then use the screenshot tool. How about some files on your PC? Upload them too from your browser. Then one day you will log into esnips and find all your favourite browsing 'snippets' - in their original format (graphic screenshots, text etc) available for download.

And not only by you. If you choose, you can make some of your folders shared so that others can look at them or even add to them (if you set that permission).

And one of my favourite features is the email option: you can generate an @esnips.com email address where you can email attachments to your account, very useful if you are using a PC that does not have the esnips toolbar.

What is so great about this is that it is 1GB per account totally free. It is an excellent tool for both researchers and photo-junkies who like to keep gathering data and quickly store it somewhere to look at later. I am nervously awaiting subscription options imposed - this is just too good to stay free!

Cons

I cannot think of many - the only thing that annoyed me slightly is that on esnips.com, if I make a folder shared, it seems to be stay shared forever, as I could not find any setting to make it private again (the only option was to move the files within this folder to another one and then delete the empty folder and create it again as a private one). Apart from this I have no complaints at all about this superb service.

"Best way I found so far for sharing my media online"

March 29, 2006  |  By GotwhatIneed

 |  Version: eSnips 1.102

Pros

Easy and fast to download and install; free; easy and intuitive to use. Gives you loads of space on the server. Doesn't limit you to any particular filetype - save what you like. Doesn't limit how you share it - you can define files as public, private, or shared with one or more people, i.e. a group you define yourself. In fact it doesn't even limit you to files - you can share bits of web pages or email messages, just select it and upload it with one click. Great idea!

The publisher's blurb for some reason doesn't mention the best bit - social networking. You tag files and can search via the tags for subjects, people, whatever. You get automatic lists of who's seen your public files, who has stuff that's tagged like yours, and so on. Visitors can leave comments about a file, or a folder, or your whole site. Your site comes with a blog if you want one, so you don't just share files, you share opinions, you can discuss your stuff too.

Since it's based on a central server you can check out what it does (there's plenty of stuff there in public folders so you can see how it all works) before you download and install the toolbar.

Cons

If you sign out via the logout button on the site you also have to remember to sign out via the button on the toolbar. That's about the only quirk that bothered me.
