This simple freeware application works pretty well, given how basic the interface is. It has two main features: to download FLV files from YouTube, and to convert them to most major formats. If there's a YouTube URL in your clipboard, it will automatically paste it for you when you click on the dialog box. From there, just hit OK and the downloading will commence. One more left-click is all it takes to load the file in the converter, which supports iPhone, iPod, PSP, cell phone, AVI, MP3, WMV, and Xvid. Surprisingly, there's also a basic video editor for cropping videos by time stamp. You can also cut out the sound when converting.
This is one of the lightest editors around, but the simplistic interface belies its functionality and it performs exactly as advertised. We'd like to see support in future editions for hunting down missing codecs, and version 2.1.5 and earlier won't work because of embed code changes on YouTube itself. Still, the YouTube Downloader is proof that not only is video-making accessible to everyone, so is video downloading and editing.

I don't like anything. It would not work for me.

There are so few videos that I'm interested in seeing again. So downloading isn't a
major priority to me. Occasionally I've found a video in music or "how to" that I wanted for further reference, but everytime I'd try this downloader it would not work! It kept telling me that FLASH was not found. I do have and have had the Version 10 Active X and the Version 10 Plug In. I finally un-installed YouTube as my RealPlayer does a fine job. -

I really cannot find any Cons yet. Maybe the format it comes in? I would prefer WMA Format but it came out in MPG4 format and works great. Crystal clear....This is the cons section still LOL
Summary
Okay. I was really sketchy about downloading something like this and I saw a lot of good reviews but some about viruses. I was really nervous as I've had nasty viruses in my past and didn't want to risk it again, though I went for it anyway. It is a really fast download, and really..it's super easy to use. Comes out in GREAT quality, NO viruses, I didn't attach the toolbar so it's almost like my little ninja YouTube Downloader in the backround! ;)
No one should really fear using this product, unless they fear having great quality videos. With quicktime player you can watch basically any video you download. Really really highly recommend it to anyone who has that video on youtube they want but can't find it anywhere else to download! You'll love it, really! -

Finally!!! found one that actually works...and with good video quality, similar to the original youtube video. This is a GREAT little software, much better than others that I have tried in the past. It's easy to use, efficient, and fast download.
