This simple freeware application works pretty well, given how basic the interface is. It has two main features: to download FLV files from YouTube, and to convert them to most major formats. If there's a YouTube URL in your clipboard, it will automatically paste it for you when you click on the dialog box. From there, just hit OK and the downloading will commence. One more left-click is all it takes to load the file in the converter, which supports iPhone, iPod, PSP, cell phone, AVI, MP3, WMV, and Xvid. Surprisingly, there's also a basic video editor for cropping videos by time stamp. You can also cut out the sound when converting.
This is one of the lightest editors around, but the simplistic interface belies its functionality and it performs exactly as advertised. We'd like to see support in future editions for hunting down missing codecs, and version 2.1.5 and earlier won't work because of embed code changes on YouTube itself. Still, the YouTube Downloader is proof that not only is video-making accessible to everyone, so is video downloading and editing.

At first, this program would work and i downloaded all the time. I loved it. My ipod also got the video's easy.

After a while the program did not work anymore. I would say two months and then it's gone. Can't use it anymore.

The program just shut down on me. I don't know why however it doesn't work. When it worked, it was great, the best program ever, however it doesn't work. Hopefully, cnet could make a newer one. I need more video's :p

The wonderful thing is that you can convert the files to another type. Also, it doesn't slow down processing like Real Player, or dump additional programs and features on the computer.

I have NO complaints about this product. It's marvelous and is helping me tremendously in the classroom!
Summary
This product is WONDERFUL and a huge help for teaching when you cannot purchase the movies for class. What I love most is being able to convert the files I download into several different formats, including Windows Media Player. This allows me to put the files into movie maker to connect long television episodes that have been broken into pieces to be one seamless film. Then I can make a DVD and not worry about lost files for next year.
I find the down-loader easy to use, fast, and able to work well when other programs are running. It doesn't slow down or cause major issues with my computer like Real Player and other free programs, and organizes the files neatly. Overall, I am EXTREMELY satisfied and very thankful someone recommended this product. I will be using it a lot and recommending it to other people. -

Give TubeHunter Ultra 2.1 a try...it's the best program ever writen...yes I know it cost money but, it's worth every penny...trust me ;)
