CNET Editors' review
There are a lot of calendar applications out there, and by this point we think that most people have settled on their favorites, whether they're devoted to Outlook, the online capabilities of Google Calendar, or something else. Most of the stand-alone calendar applications that we review don't particularly impress us, simply because they offer little in the way of features that could conceivably lure people away from other programs. VueMinder Calendar Lite, however, is an exception: this flexible calendar fills a niche that other calendar programs don't.
The application's interface is sleek and attractive, reminding us very much of Microsoft Outlook. It has all the typical things you'd expect from a calendar: you can create different categories to organize events and appointments, set reminders with alarms, and so-on. Where this calendar really shines, however, is with its interactive capabilities. You can share calendars on a local area network, subscribe to any calendars that follow the standard iCalendar format, and sync the VueMinder Calendar with multiple Google Calendars. We also very much like the optional desktop calendar that the program offers; this translucent calendar can be moved around the screen and have its opacity adjusted, allowing you to have a seamlessly integrated calendar readily available. The program's online Help file is well-written and thorough. Overall, we were quite impressed with both the design and features of VueMinder Calendar Lite, and we recommend it highly.
VueMinder Calendar Lite is free. The program installs and uninstalls without issues.
Publisher's Description
From VueSoft:
VueMinder Lite is a FREE calendar and reminder program. If you're looking for the perfect offline PC-based companion to Google Calendar, you've found it in VueMinder, which supports automatic synchronization with Google Calendar and can show your schedule regardless of whether you happen to be online or offline. Data is also backed up automatically, protecting you against the potential loss of your Google Calendar events. A calendar browser allows addition of many calendars, such as holidays, local weather, sport schedules, religious occasions, and more. You can also create your own calendars, which are overlaid into day, week, and month views. Events can be filtered or color-coded based on associated calendar, category, priority, or location. Events are also visible on the Windows desktop, where a transparent desktop calendar turns your old Windows desktop into something entirely new and useful. ICS calendar subscriptions are fully supported, along with the ability to import or export ICS files. Calendars can be saved as web pages (HTML) for publication to your website or sharing with others. Files can be linked to events and opened using just 2 clicks of the mouse. Print features are also provided, with a number of layout styles and a preview window that dynamically refreshes to show exactly what will be printed. VueMinder truly shines in the way it presents reminders, which can be either popup windows or unobtrusive desktop alerts. Reminders can be configured to play media files or even recite text-to-speech descriptions. If your computer speakers are turned up, you'll be able to hear the details of your reminder from another room - no more wondering what the computer is beeping about. If you're familiar with Microsoft Outlook, VueMinder will feel instantly familiar. Even if you've never used Outlook, VueMinder is very intuitive and easy to learn, with many convenient touches, such as the ability to undo accidental reminder dismissal.

"Been using for over a year - EXCELLENT!"
Version: VueMinder Lite 9.1.3
Pros
Terrific calendar program. Able to track and see all my events and tasks. I started with the Lite version and have since upgraded to the Pro version. Vueminder Pro texts me and emails me in advance so I don't forget any appointment. I can sync it through my Google calendar and then have everything on my desktop Vueminder calendar and on my Android phone calendar. Also sync's to my wife's Google calendar and to her Android phone so we both can see each other's schedule (when she adds an item on her phone, it sync's back to Vueminder calendar - pretty cool). All activity passes through Vueminder! Tech help files are extensive and if you have an idea for making the program better, you can email to support. I have had probably 4 suggestions implemented in this fashion - much better than any other company I have dealt with. Just a very top notch program and company.
Cons
The cons are sometimes there are items which could make the program better or easier to use, but after sending the suggestion to tech support - the item gets fixed in the next version (if it is a good suggestion!). So cons yes, but since I have owned the program, it always gets fixed in the next version which comes out fairly often. So the real answer is - there are NO Cons!!!
Summary
Just a terrific calendar program which sync's with Outlook (which I don't use anymore) and Google calendars. As soon as I add an item to my desktop, it pops up on my phone calendar and on my wife's phone calendar. I can include extensive descriptions, various alarms, categories for easy retrieval. The calendar itself can be viewed so many ways it would take too much time to put down here, but give the Lite version a try like I did and you will undoubtedly opt to purchase the Pro version which is inexpensive for all that it will do! It is a really amazing calendar program and extremely well organized to keep you fully informed. Yes, 5 Stars is the only score this calendar with all its features deserves.

"Outstanding Text-To-Speech Not Working Since Ver. 9.1.3"
Version: VueMinder Lite 9.1.3
Pros
This programs unique Text-To-Speech feature is outstanding, when it works. It can be set up to remind you verbaly by playing back your reminder at a user programmable time.
Cons
Text-to-Speech reminders have not worked since version 9.1.3 came out.
Summary
A very good program while text-to-speech was working.

"So easy to use and set up!"
Version: VueMinder Lite 9.1.3
Pros
Very appealing visually and easy to set up. The transparent image of the calendar over the desk top while the main screen is closed is a great feature. Being able to have 1,2,3,or more days on the view is also good for me and I prefer it to having a choice of only,1 5 or whole month. Once an entry is made it is much easier to manipulate or change than several other calendars I have tried, for me this was the biggest down side of most of the others.
Cons
I would like to be able to chance the number of days on the transparent view on the desktop to my choice of days rather than just the traditional 1,5 or month views

"Works great and offers more than I need."
Version: VueMinder Lite 9.1.3
Pros
A desktop scheduler that sits on my desktop; no need for me to go online. All defaults fit my needs perfectly. Can schedule an all-day event or blocks of time of appointments. Can click to "today" from any date. Allows daily, weekly, and monthly views.
Cons
For me, none because I don't need "bells & whistles" extras.
Summary
A great and simple scheduler for people who are not tied to a smart phone or an iAnything. Highly recommended.

"Exactly what I have been looking for."
Version: VueMinder Lite 9.1.3
Pros
Imported everything that I wanted it to.
Cons
Nothing that I have noticed yet.
Summary
I had been using the calendar in Thunderbird, when Thunderbird gets an upgrade the calendar does not work until it gets updated, so I seen VueMinder Lite and tried it, and it does what I want it to and more.
