Duplicate photos take up an incredible amount of unnecessary space on hard drives. However, many people leave them for fear of erasing an original. VisiPics is an innovative way to find these duplicates and safely know you are erasing the space-wasters.
This free program has a tangled interface that will take some experimenting to get used to. But once understood, it works fairly smoothly. Along the top are drop-down menus for files, actions, tools, and options, and all look fairly standard. Below, is a file tree and the meat of the program. Here, you will find an empty box with arrows and plus/minus signs along the sides, and buttons for applying picture filters. Searching for duplicates involves selecting a file from the tree and hitting the Play button. It successfully found duplicate files on our computer. Users can adjust how strict the program searches, as well as by size and file type. Any found duplicates appear side-by-side and can be easily deleted.
While we were initially turned off by the complexity of getting VisiPics moving, we were impressed enough with the results to say that this is a worthy download for anyone trying to create some space on their computer.
Publisher's description
From Ozone :VisiPics does more than look for identical files. It applies five image comparison filters in order to measure how close pairs of images on the hard drive are. It will detect two different resolution files of the same picture as a duplicate, or the same picture saved in different formats, or duplicates where only minor cosmetic changes have taken place. All detected duplicates are shown side by side with pertinent information like file name, type and size displayed. Uses Hyperthreading or Multi-processors systems. Highly efficient results with adjustable similarity levels. Easy to use interface, preview your duplicates easily and pick the ones to delete with a simple click. Starts to display the results while scanning, you don't have to wait to delete your duplicates.
Version 1.3 includes load photographic RAW formats, detect rotations, new true multi-lingual, and other goodies and fixes.

"Make sense out of huge image collections!"
Pros: This one may have a few rough edges, but it blows away any other free image duplicate finder software I've seen, and it gives commercial software a run for its money.
You don't just get a list of matching files -- you get useful tools to compare images flagged for duplication, and then you can ignore any that you know you want to keep. It's got great features and I use it regularly. :)
Cons: There is no warning that earlier version databases are now useless (it won't even load or convert 1.2x format databases), so plan on taking awhile to go through and reselect ALL your ignore settings for similar images in your collection(s). (sigh)
Still, I'm glad that Mr. FOUET continues to work on the software. When I can afford to I intend to send a donation to help out and show my appreciation.

"Nice, Nice,Nice...... But...."
Pros: it finds all pictures you might have, shows them grouped together after which you can select to delete them or move them to other places... It runs from parent directories so no need to copy them over first.
Cons: I REALLY miss a maquee function so you can select rows of pictures to delete (or holding CTRL or shift to make multiple selections). I updated/cleaned out my whole digital photo library and deleted more then 10.000 doubles. Each and everyone needed to be select individually, which was really a pain in the lowerparts. I really don't understand why this isn't a possability since it's a very basic tool what has been implemented in the Windows operating system so I rather think it has been left out for some strange reason......

Version: VisiPics 1.3
Pros: This program did everything that I required and I had no problems with the interface, it found dupes in different formats that I had around my computer and helped me clean up the mess that is "My Pictures" on my own PC.
Cons: I did not experience any cons while using this software, for the price (free) I cannot complain.
Summary: If you need to find duplicate images on your computer this is it.

Pros: free to download
Cons: cannot compare attributes of the found duplicates, so how do you know which ones to keep and which to delete.
