Bit torrent technology has revolutionized file sharing and downloading, making it possible for individuals to share and swap huge files quickly and with little hassle. The biggest problem may be just finding the files you want among all the torrents on all the various bit torrent sites. Torrent Junction from JustVB can help. It's a free search utility in Visual Basic that quickly scours available bit torrent sites individually or collectively and displays its results within the program's interface. You can view pages in the torrent search engine or download them directly from the application since it also acts as client. With Torrent Junction there's no need to juggle multiple programs.

Torrent Junction's main interface is a simple but attractive dialog: just a search field with a tabular view for search results and buttons controlling the few available program settings, an update function, and a Help file in .pdf format. There are boxes to select each currently available torrent site individually or to search them all at once. Using Torrent Junction couldn't be simpler: choose your sites and enter your search, and the program returns detailed results in seconds. A search for an obscure black-and-white comedy turned up not only the film but also MP3 excerpts. We like the ability to choose only certain sites to search yet still being able to search the selected sites all at once.

Torrent Junction is freeware. The latest version, 0.8b, includes major updates. It works fine in Vista but shows some clunkiness in Windows 7, and it leaves files behind when uninstalled.

"Useless with only 6 sites searched"

February 04, 2010  |  By theo54nz

 |  Version: Torrent Junction 0.6b

Pros

Simple interface, Free. easy to use.

Cons

Only 6 sites.

Summary

Do a Google search for the most popular Torrent sites, you may end up here: http://netforbeginners.about.com/od/peersharing/a/torrent_search.htm
Torrent Junction only searches 6 sites, one of them being the totally obsolete Mininova after they removed 85% of its content. From the remaining 5 sites only The PirateBay is listed, all others are not even in the Top 35.

"Great Product, I love it."

April 20, 2009  |  By clueless2000

 |  Version: Torrent Junction 0.6b

Pros

The annoyance of going to many websites and search for torrents is gone.

Cons

A single tab instead of different one would be better.

Summary

This is a very useful product for people who like to download stuff from torrents. It could use a little bit of tweaking like one tab for all results and check boxes instead of radio buttons. But overall this is product has a great potential.

"Stick with the free version of ******"

March 19, 2009  |  By kluelos

 |  Version: Torrent Junction 0.6b

Pros

No pro's, really

Cons

Other products are better built, search more sites, filter results more accurately There's just no reason to bother with this also-ran

Summary

The author seems unaware that there is any competition, and hasn't contributed anything new to the field. TorrentJunction is a product that's inferior to what you can already get for free. The interface is unnecessarily clumsy and cluttered. It uses radio buttons for the few sites that it does search, which means you can either search one of those sites, or all of them but you can't search some of them and not others. There seems to be no reason for this at all. Why NOT search TPB and IsoHunt but not BitJunkie? There is no documentation for the product, and no HELP tab, so no explanation of this rather bizarre choice.

Torrentjunction presents separate tabs for each site's search results, but those tabs are never all used, useless clutter at best. If you search "all sites" the results are in their own separate tab, and you can't filter them by individual site with the site tabs. The site tabs are not populated at all in an "all-sites" search. So why have them?

A site's tab is populated only if you search that site, the rest are blank. If the product DID add as many sites as its competition, this would become a veritable forest of blank tabs. This was a really strange design choice. Are those blank tabs supposed to disappear? Without documentation there's no way to tell if this is a defect that isn't working, or a deliberate design choice. That it's deliberate is hard to imagine -- why waste the space?

Search results are completely unfiltered, there isn't even an attempt to cope with the difference between various sites, which makes this tool substantially less useful than almost any of its competition. My test searches were filled with irrelevant or unexplained hits, but there's no way to find out why the tool included a given result -- again, no documentation at all about how it is supposed to work and no way to tell if those results are the design or the result of a defect.

The installer is an older version that doesn't permit you to create program shortcuts in an existing folder. You can do that by hand later, but there's really no excuse for making the user do so. The installer doesn't offer the option of creating a desktop shortcut or a quicklaunch entry -- hard to understand why a contemporary product would lack these things. TJ shows little thought, testing or care for the customer experience throughout.

Much better multi-site search tools already exist, and this undocumented effort with its inexplicable interface just isn' worth the bother. Try the free version of ****** from Convivea as a standalone tool, or the Stickley.com web-based tool instead.
