Tired of that old cell phone ring? It might be time to make yourself a Radiohead or Eminem ring tone. ToneThis is one of several software packages that offer the ability to make ring tones (or the higher-quality true tones) out of MP3 files or CDs in your own collection, and put them on your phone. The software itself is easy to install and operate, allowing a user to choose a small segment of a song to use as the phone ring, or to pick an image on a computer to use as the cell phone's wallpaper. Once selected, the ring tone or image is uploaded to the cell phone carrier, and then downloaded to the phone itself, making it a good fit for people who can't connect their phones to their PCs. We would have liked to see a few more features, such as the ability to edit or adjust the audio files or pictures. The trial limitations also are very strict, allowing you to test just one audio or picture file. The software works only with a specific list of cell phone carriers, in a limited number of countries, and with a limited number of phone models, so make sure your phone is supported before launching it. However, ToneThis can be a simple way for nonexperts to make their own ring tones. Watch the CNET video review of ToneThis:

Version: ToneThis 2.64
"Works exactly as advertised: sends ringtones and wallpapers"
Pros: Minimalistic interface that does the job, needs almost no instructions on the PC side, and just a little on the phone side, result works exactly as advertised
Cons: Must connect to Internet to send content through, ringtone creation interface does not load MP3 > 4:30 long, highlighting a portion can be imprecise as no zooming is possible. Wallpaper preview does not match actual display on phone. Interface looks very clunky and needs reorganization

"Is this editor rating a Joke"
Pros: Nothing to report
Cons: A 4 start editor rating but the application won't even properly load and work. Come on. Get it working and I will try again.

Version: ToneThis 2.64
Pros: Hey Everybody,
I figured it out. The CNET build seems to be broken for some reason, but the version from the ToneThis website works fine. Try the download link there.
