Version: The Ultimate Troubleshooter 2.40
Pros: For some time my PC has been hanging on startup and I've been having to press the reset button 3 or 4 times every morning to get it going. Pretty worrying. I found this product the long way round. A CNET forum member recommended the fixyourwindows website and their site had a link to answersthatwork, the software providers. I was impressed by the user testimonials so downloaded the trial version but this only highlights problems without telling you how to fix them. I paid for the full version and followed their advice about disabling several programs that were running at startup. Since doing what they said I've twice closed down completely and rebooted - no problems so far at least. Far cheaper and more convenient than taking it to the shop. The screen is clearly laid out and they leave the decision on what to do up to you, based on their recommendations. Downloading was simple.
Cons: 1. The evaluation version tells you that you've got a problem (which you already knew) but doesn't fix it. In this case I am happy that I paid for the full version but in general I like to see that something really works before buying.
2. A lot of the applications running on my computer have been flagged as "Unknown". You have to email them with details (actually a simple automated task). At this stage I haven't heard back but presumably at some time they will come back with further recommendations. Rather disappointing because some of the applications appear to be standard Microsoft items.
