It takes just minutes to install, has a friendly browser-based interface and is completely free. It combines the features needed every day to a manage a network in a small or medium-sized business: inventory and report on your company's hardware and software assets automatically (including patches, anti-virus updates, and licenses), monitor and troubleshoot the hardware and software on your network (look for low disk space, unwanted software, license violations), run an IT Help Desk for your company that's easy to use (let users submit tickets via email and automatically have their asset information). Spiceworks requires no agents to be installed and managed.

"Amazing AND Free - a great combination"
Pros: We were using SmarterTools.com product named "SmarterTicket" but,
frankly, it needed a lot of work before being useful in a real-world I.T. department - one where more than 1 agent / tech would contribute to the resolution (SmarterTicket cannot handle that equation).
When we started looking around for a better solution, we discovered Spiceworks and ALL the other AMAZING features it offers. It even comes packed with instructional videos built into the interface for training.
From receiving automated reports when a server has less than 10% space on the OS drive to auto-scanning our entire network to produce a list of hardware and software assets -- this tool is like hiring the perfect worker.
Now they've added a Help Center / Help Desk feature that automatically turn incoming support requests into tickets. I can't wait to see what they come up with next!
Oh, and it's completely free. It doesn't get better than that.
Cons: Honestly, not much. I would like to see the ability to brand the product with corporate colors, logo, etc. Other than that, the interface (not unlike all software) takes a bit of learning. But they've tackled that as well, with their recent addition of instructional videos built right into the interface.
