Though it's mostly easy to use and boasts a couple of extras, Soulseek's shaky performance makes it a strictly average file-sharing option. The interface isn't beautiful, but it does provide large clear icons for performing actions such as searching for files, sharing folders, and creating a wish list. In some cases, we immediately were able to begin looking for results, but in others, we had problems connecting.
When we were able to undertake successful searches, we found many files were unavailable. Search speeds also were below average, although the inclusion of a chat-room feature is a nice touch. Since it is free, P2P fans might take Soulseek for a spin, but they'll probably also want to keep another few file-sharing clients at their disposal.
Publisher's description
From Soulseek :Soulseek is an ad-free, spyware-free, file-sharing application dedicated predominantly to the free trade of electronic music and the promotion of unsigned artists. Search for and share all kinds of files, including MP3s. It also includes chat rooms, and it features a buddy list for your favorite users.
Fixed a bug which sometimes results in excessive use of upload bandwidth when participating in the search distribution network.

Version: Soulseek 157 NS 13c
"Probably The Best peer-2-peer available"
Pros: Great for finding hard to find music. Won't riddle searches with misleading files like limewire or beareshare. Chatroom is a good feature and a gateway to grabbing offline files from other users
Cons: Some people tend to be less generous with files - no music shared, "0 total uploads allowed" - frustrating if the file is hard to find, the program tends to be badwith-sapping
Summary: Would definitely recommend to connoisseurs of all genres of music

Version: Soulseek 157 NS 13c
"It works great searching songs and singers"
Pros: I can download it right into my Itunes and then into my Ipod, which is great. The fact that people share music with others is a great concept.
Cons: Some songs you cannot get and some people will not share. I have also received nasty messages upon attempting to retrieve music. I found that very rude and annoying.
Summary: It is very user friendly and I can get all the music at no cost downloaded to my Itunes. I love the fact that people share with others there music.

Version: Soulseek 157 NS 13c
"No Filler, No Adware, Simply The Best"
Pros: Don't be surprised to be denied downloading if you do not share your files. This isn't the Gnutella Network, the more sharing you do, the more downloading you'll ultimately be allowed. Great for indie music and lesser known acts.
Cons: Absolutely no cons at all.
Summary: Unlike Frostwire or Limewire, Soulseek uses a central based network, you are not connecting to the Gnutella Network, so in order to keep Soulseek running smoothly, it relies heavily on members sharing. Don't be surprised to have every download atte... read more >>
