This feature-rich launcher that puts programs and applications a few clicks away has great potential, but we experienced some performance issues during testing. Launching SoftStart is a one-click process; either click your mouse wheel or hit Start on your keyboard. The program sports a visually appealing, skinnable interface, with 16 predefined buttons for easy access to system folders, programs, the task manager, the Internet, Windows Explorer, e-mail, and system tools, for example, and spots for you to add frequently used applications. A small panel also appears at the top of your screen, displaying your currently running programs. We like the application's Switch function, which gives you the ability to flip between open files. Closing SoftStart is also a one-click process; simply click outside the interface. Unfortunately, launching SoftStart and programs from SoftStart slightly slowed our test machines. Despite its ease of use, its 10-day trial period and disappointing sluggish performance may send users looking for another desktop-management tool that does a better job on efficiency.

SoftStart offers 20 menu styles and the possibility to produce your own menu styles. And with a further click SoftStart disappears from the desktop.
