This powerhouse FTP client takes some getting used to, but you'll be glad you gave it a chance. Don't be alarmed by the cramped, multipane Windows Explorer-like interface; you can customize the toolbars and windowpanes however you like.
With the Local Browser window visible, SmartFTP supports drag-and-drop transfers like those on basic FTP clients. But its real power lies deeper within its option menus, where you'll find CHMOD remote file-attribute modification, background file transfers, multiple FTP connections, passive-mode transfers, site-to-site transfers (FXP), and connections via proxy or SSL. Using the Global Queue window, you even can schedule downloads or uploads to more than one server.
SmartFTP may overwhelm beginners, but it's a natural for intermediates and up.

Publisher's description
From SmartFTP :SmartFTP allows you to transfer files across the Internet. It features an Explorer-like, customizable interface and supports drag-and-drop functions. Multiple FTP connections can be opened at the same time, and you can copy files from one remote host to another (FXP). Remote-host directory information is cached for future viewing, and FTP URLs are supported. Other features include a Favorites list; the ability to resume broken downloads; a global history; background transfers; proxy support; a passive transfer mode; and the ability to perform recursive downloads, uploads, and deletes.
Version 3.0.1022.5 adds client side ASCII conversation.

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 3.0.1022.5
"No longer free! WAY TOO HIGH PRICED!!!"
Pros: It was a good piece of software and had great features.
Cons: They cannot justify the HIGH PRICE for the basic program. They blew it on this one. I guess SmartFTP thought they have the market monopoly and charge an exorbitant amount (renew payment yearly!) for a file transfer software that can be found for FREE with many other developers. What they should have done was keep the free version limited to basic usage. New companies will come out with their similar version and knock SmartFTP off their feet.

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 3.0.1022.5
Pros: It was perfect until version 2.5. No transfer queue yet.
Cons: I purchased this software because I thought the transfer queue will be gone eventually. If you read their forum, no one really likes the transfer queue. It srcrew up my uploading files since sometimes the queue is immediately executed sometimes it doesn't. I have no idea what it's waiting for, but I wasn't downloading nor uploading any other files when the queue got stuck. Believe me the transfer queue really really sucks!

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 3.0.1022.5
"Excellent program but very unreliable"
Pros: Just look at the screenshots, it is a full-featured FTP client unlike any other. GUI is generic so it takes a bit to get used to it, but very feature-rich. Was using it for some years.
Cons: The lame license change. Not suited for total FTP beginners.
Summary: Once an update is available it will stop working until you download it - very annoying.
But what shocked me as a user is that, it was presented as FREEWARE but it was never such - as the app forces updates, they just changed the licence ... read more >> - See all 3 user reviews Write review
