This powerhouse FTP client takes some getting used to, but you'll be glad you gave it a chance. Don't be alarmed by the cramped, multipane Windows Explorer-like interface; you can customize the toolbars and windowpanes however you like.
With the Local Browser window visible, SmartFTP supports drag-and-drop transfers like those on basic FTP clients. But its real power lies deeper within its option menus, where you'll find CHMOD remote file-attribute modification, background file transfers, multiple FTP connections, passive-mode transfers, site-to-site transfers (FXP), and connections via proxy or SSL. Using the Global Queue window, you even can schedule downloads or uploads to more than one server.
SmartFTP may overwhelm beginners, but it's a natural for intermediates and up.

Publisher's description
From SmartSoft :SmartFTP allows you to transfer files across the Internet. It features an Explorer-like, customizable interface and supports drag-and-drop functions. Multiple FTP connections can be opened at the same time, and you can copy files from one remote host to another (FXP). Remote-host directory information is cached for future viewing, and FTP URLs are supported. Other features include a Favorites list; the ability to resume broken downloads; a global history; background transfers; proxy support; a passive transfer mode; and the ability to perform recursive downloads, uploads, and deletes.

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 2.5.1008.26
Pros: The program itself is good. Just don't EVER ask for help, state a concern or offer a criticism in their support forums
Cons: The support forum moderator "mb" is a spoiled, childish tyrant that seriously needs his butt spanked and to be sent to his room without supper!

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 2.5.1008.26
Pros: The software itself works pretty good.
Cons: No SFTP support, requires updates, unprofessional support. I actually PAID for this program and their support ignored me and constantly says nothing can be done even when other programs do it. Instead of responding to my issues they insulted me and banned me then made untrue malicious claims. I have never experienced something so unprofessional.

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 2.5.1008.26
"Horrible "Feature" cripples anything good"
Pros: Decent software, works as expected. Must be said that FTP is not a complex concept, and software could be written by monkeys.
Cons: This software was written by monkeys. I want to document this, so I'll do so here.
I quit using smartFTP because it automatically stops working periodically (often) and nags you about upgrading to the latest version. When I say stops working, I mean it disables itself and won't work again until you upgrade. This is considered by SMARTFTP to be a "feature." you'll find other reviews here on cnet tent to agree, this feature is more of a crippleware curse.
So I confronted support about it on their forum, and made quite a strong argument why this was only detrimental to their cause and didn't actually provide any additional feature.
I spent a good 15 mintues writing out what I believed to be constructive critism, only to have their forum administrators just delete the topic without a trace, and not a word.
I wrote a new topic pointing out that the admin there were trying to silence me, and that too was deleted.
For the reference, I was quitting smartFTP anyhow, because of their "feature" that forced expiration of their "freeware" software, but this was icing on the cake.
