SimonTools CyberGhost VPN aims to allow you to browse the Web privately through encryption methods and by supplying you with an anonymous IP address. Unfortunately, we were never able to get the program to connect.
To use the program, you have to first create an account, which involves a confirmation code sent via e-mail. The whole process is very quick and, other than an e-mail address, doesn't require any personal information. The user interface is very modern and professional-looking. The tabbed-style design creates a nice flow for checking your connection status, traffic usage, applying autostart settings, and entering IP address exceptions. The free, or basic version, does come with some limitations, such as slower server connection, a maximum monthly data allowance of 10GB, and the appearance of ads. However, even after following the Help manual, and configuring the firewall, Vista testers couldn't get the program to connect. The situation was worse for testers with XP, who reported difficulties getting the program to even install.
The makers of CyberGhost VPN should have created a wizard to configure the program for those users who get the program to install. This program proved to a headache for our testers, and we suggest you find another way to surf anonymously.
