Version: Shooting Star 2.5.13
"You need two other things -- software and a host service to use"
Pros: I thought the interface was OK, but that was as far as I got. I was anxious to try my first auction management tool, but never got there.
Cons: What I didn't like was that in order to use this software, I needed to download another piece of software (Poster Toaster), which then recommended a hosting service, 66pix.com. Although the company president (who apparently also performs personal customer service) was very generous with his time, I couldn't get it to work, at least for me. He ultimately gave up on me and issued a refund, which was frustrating -- a day of effort pissed away. I also could not access their website to try to help myself, which I found out later costs extra. I also couldn't use my existing TurboLister software with Shooting Star. The software may be great, but I was very frustrated trying to implement it. While I am not a technology virtuouso, I am also not a neophyte.

"The program is good but lacks new features. Support is horrible!"
Pros: The program provides a nicely organized view of auction item status, similar to eBay's My eBay. It resides on your hard drive which allows working offline, but you have to download your data regularly to keep it up to date. It does what it claims to do, albeit with an aged interface.
Cons: Up until 3 years ago it was the best software available for managing your auctions. However, support is now very weak. They do provide a support forum for users but the principal FooDog partner (there are two partners) rarely makes an appearance, so answers routinely have to come from fellow users. Unfortunately not many users use the forum so many questions go unanswered. Perhaps one reason is because Kevin, one of the FooDog partners, reviews all posts and decides what gets posted and what doesn't. FooDog does not permit any public criticism of Shooting Star on their forum, not even constructive criticism. Sad.
Emails are sometimes are not responded to, or not responded to in a timely manner. I personally had cases where FooDog claimed they never received my emails. At other times responses took literally weeks. My main complaint is that FooDog made promises to add new features to the software but two years later have not done so, claiming they don't have the time to invest. That is sad because the competition has now overtaken Shooting Star and it won't be long before Shooting Star becomes another auction program that bites the dust.
One glaring omission in Shooting Star is its inability to do HTML email. They only provide a very basic text editor. So links, logos, banners, etc. that are common to HTML email cannot be done. The competition has long provided this important feature.

"Nearly 4 YRS with ShootingStar/Foodogsoftware - Happy as can be"
Pros: They work hard to stay up with eBay and its changes (rare outage is usually less than 90% of the competitions). Very usable...
Cons: Not everything - but for the price it IS UNTOUCHABLE!
