Publisher's description

From Eastern Star Software :

For anyone having a volume of tedious text to type, this auto-suggesting, intelligent, 10000 3-key-shorthand enabled, 20-user text-processor will be of great use for typing in the skeletal text material into the computer. Whenever the user types the first few (two or more) letters of a long word (or of a familiar phrase/ clause), SB tries to guess the intended word/ phrase etc. in an intelligent way & displays that auto-suggestion (two possible alternatives) on the screen. In case of correct guessing, the user needs to just press Insert/ Alt key to get that auto-suggestion auto-typed. Newer auto-suggestions are even automatically learnt from the user's written texts. In addition to English and other European/ East-Asian fonts, SB can even type in Bengali, Hindi or other South-Asian fonts (involving conjunct consonants), in a similarly fast manner. SB exports its typed text in the form of HTML-output, that may be copied using any Internet-browser into any word-processor (for final use).

"Very fast typist: clever auto-text & shorthand; but a ET interface!"

by chandanaghosh on January 18, 2006

Pros: The dynamic, never-tired doublets of auto-suggestions (auto-texts) in SB, an auto-modified set of tens of thousands dependent on your recent (& ancient) typing-history, must be revelations for PC-users mostly unaccustomed to this new-millennium facility. But even for me, familiar with IntelliEdit & NoteTab offering dynamic 5-6 auto-texts, SB is great for the user-freedom of deciding whether to let or not let SB learn auto-texts; so that it won't keep learning all your typos & tease you. In addition, this is the only one package found by me where I can easily & fruitfully use & teach & use shorthand abbreviations as well!. For people like me writing non-English texts as well, it's simply a godsend as I am never flooded with nonsensical English auto-texts while I am typing in Bengali or Hindi. Rather, its East-Indian option is now learning pure Bengali from me only, like a newly adopted child of mine! For Bengali or Hindi writers, I simply cannot describe how convenient it is with the on-screen keyboard & in-built conjunct-consonant maker as well!! I particularly recommend each & every South-Asian PC-user to download it, in addition to recommending it particularly for non-English & even for pure English users as well.

Cons: The user-interface (green background etc.) is somewhat unfamiliar, as if made by an extra-terrestrial. But even if it is made by an ET (it seems in their own programming language), the ET has taken a lot of care to make it user-friendly for us humans. Thank you, ET!

"It has been greatly beneficial to me in typing my scientific papers (in English)"

by arabindanath on January 24, 2006

Pros: In typing my scientific papers & thesis (in English only), I could type in a lot of text material in a small duration of time, and so has been greatly benefitted. The insertion of auto-suggestions facility is just great! I wonder whether the description-line given "Insert common used words or phrases while typing" reflects the actual feeling when one inserts a long word/ phrase with one keystroke: I feel this should become sort of "Instantly insert common....."!

Cons: You obviously can't have here your final document in your desired formatted form ready for printing, neither can have tables, figures etc. within it. It's only a intermediate, a very good intermediate, but yet not the final destination of your texts. I wonder (rather in a idle way!) when in this world word-processors will appear with the beauty of Microsoft Word & speed of this (SB) Word-Storm Processor fused together! How many decades later?

"It's excellent as an autolearning-autotext typist, even better for non-English!"

by geetprakashkumar on January 20, 2006

Pros: The autolearning-autotext feature is excellently useful for general use, and more particularly so for academic, literary etc. use. The shorthand also works fine and becomes helpful (when you're alert enough!). The recommended hindi-marathi free font is a very good selection, and its associated onscreen keyboard has greatly helped me to practice writing in Hindi! This is in spite of the somnolent EULA welcoming & every SB-session ending with the outrageous limit of 9x2 lines for the unregistered variety (there may be free breakfasts, but still no free lunch, isn't it folks?). Still, I do hope Indians, Nepalis, Pakistanis etc. gets informed about it soon, and the sooner the better.

Cons: I hope the non PC-savvy users could quit SB by simply clicking the outermost close (X) button as well (hope they upgrades SB to do it) - anyway, this problem should not matter after the user's 1st day in SB!
