Screencast-O-Matic is a handy tool for recording screenshots and sharing them with friends or colleagues for a number of different purposes. With just a few clicks, you can start recording your screen, and once you're satisfied with your video, you can upload it directly from there.
Straightforward mechanics: To start a recording, all you have to do is open the program, position the recording window, and press Play or the activating hot key. And when your recording is complete, just hit Done on the small control bar located below the bottom margin of the recording window. You can also Pause in the middle of a recording and then resume using these controls.
Direct publishing options: When you finish a recording, you'll automatically be taken to a preview screen where you can watch your recording and see what you think. If you're satisfied, there are several saving and publishing options listed along the right-hand side of the screen. For instance, you can upload your video directly to YouTube or to the Screencast-O-Matic website, or you can save it as a video file to your computer in either MP4, AVI, FLV, or GIF format.
Mouse circle: When you record, the program automatically places a yellow circle around the mouse as it moves around the screen. This can be convenient in some instances to help viewers keep track of the cursor, but the fact that you can't turn it off is a little frustrating at times.
Full-screen recording: There is no option to do a direct full-screen recording through this app. You can stretch the capture window so that it covers the entire screen, but sometimes that means that the Control Bar is off the screen and inaccessible, which isn't ideal.
Screencast-O-Matic is a handy utility, and its free version only has a few limitations. The straightforward mechanics make it a snap to use for even the least computer-savvy, and direct publishing options give you a great way to share anything you need with friends and colleagues. The Pro version removes a small watermark on published videos and enables editing tools. It costs $15 per year.
Screencast-O-Matic is a free screen and webcam recorder to capture video from your computer screen and share it on Screencast-O-Matic.com, YouTube, or save to a video file. Upgrade to Pro Features and get much more.
What's new in this version:
Version 2.0. New simplified recorder controls, faster uploads.
Over all great program especially if you're willing to pay the 15$
It is a big hassle to record steam games because you have to install a window resizer
I was an idiot and bought this before I finished testing it because I was so happy with the results. Then, of course after flushing my 15 bucks down the toilet, I discovered it continued to record my desktop in stead of my steam game. Let me tell you, I was pretty pissed
Easy to use ,fantastic video quality , and it also records voice.
it leaves a watermark but personally that doesn't bother me .
It's been a long time since I tried any of the newer Video capture programs , and that's partially because I had a few programs that I've been using for years , and partially because the top programs back 5 or 6 years ago all hijacked your home page and were a pain to remove the crap they loaded.
But I just bought a new Windows 10 so I figured I take a chance with something new.
This program was a very pleasant surprise , it's simple to adjust and use , and the filming quality is fantastic , plus it also records voice , and most importantly it doesn't try to hijack your machine or add unwanted items .
I give this a solid 5 Stars .
Screencast-O-Matic seemed to capture the area which you have the option to select quite well.
It is fairly easy to use.
It would not capture sound.
This was a good attempt on my part to select an app that would capture a video.
But, what they did not tell you... "Free" means you will not be able to capture sound.
So, if you are looking for an app that is truly free, I, IMO, would avoid this.
-- That simplicity comes at a price: lack of control and customizability.
-- There's a watermark in the bottom left for the free version. Not unexpected, but also not mentioned in the reviews.
-- Full-screen recording is awkward to accomplish. You must DRAG the recording edges over your screen, but if you drag it out to your desktop's edges, the software's control panel becomes hidden. Even with the control panel at top option selected.
For something so easy to use, I would've expected better, more predictable results. I'm sure this software is excellent for certain purposes, but I found the lack of customizability to be a real problem.
1. User Friendly software. Easy to operate. (5 out of 5)
2. Records in most popular mp4 - x264 format. (5 out of 5)
3. Fairly (Not so Good) quality video recording.. Clear pixels but dis-continuous frames even for 25-fps... looks like 15-fps quality for 30-fps choice (2 out of 5)
4. Option for pausing the recording.. while watching video in full screen mode..(5 ou of 5)
1. Free version has a limit of only 15-minutes max time of recording. (1 out of 5).. would be (5 out of 5) for paid version...
2. Dis-continuous frames even for 25-fps... looks like 15-fps quality for 30-fps choice overall Fairly (Not so Good) quality video recording..(2 out of 5)
3. Limited option of choosing frame size.. Only 3-options in free version (3 out of 5)
4. Takes lot of time in publishing..saving video. (2 out of 5)
In nut shell, I just deleted the free version of software from my desktop.. Its GOOD FOR NOTHING!!!

Cons: In free version, it records in Mono Audio. Its Irritating.. Why not provide stereo audio recording option in free version too..
