This database application lets you store recipes, but isn't always easy to use. ProChef's plain interface displays the list of recipes on the left with details on the right, but comes with only a single recipe. Although you'll be able to add, edit, and resize ingredients for recipes, you won't be able to sort them into categories. Handy references and tools include substitutions, a glossary, and multiple import and export options. A meal planner also is available, but contains sample items that can't be added to the shopping list because they aren't entered as recipes. Though you can tie a shopping list to a recipe, the program can't detect duplicate entries, so you may end up with "1 egg" and "2 eggs" as separate items on the list. In addition, the 30-use trial isn't long enough to get a good sense of the program. Intermediate users and above looking for a recipe manager will want a more intuitive and polished program.

This program handles basic recipe management tasks such as recipe scaling, categorizing, import/export from/to MasterCook and its own format, ingredient conversion from/to U.S./metric measures, multiple delete (or even deleting the entire cookbook with one click), and a backup/restore to/from whichever location you like. A conversion calculator and a speedy search tool to browse through recipes easily are included. Recipes can now be searched for by ingredient and user can now access the program update page from the program menu. Version 7.5 has bug fix: Directions window now does not display field heading when no direction is present. New Feature; Software update for registered users now easily accessible from the software's main page drop down menu. Software's Web site product revision information also accessible from the software's main page drop down menu.
