Publisher's description
From KennettNet :PodUtil is an easy-to-use utility for viewing the songs on your iPod and copying them to your computer. Once your iPod has been scanned by PodUtil, all your music will be presented to you in an easy-to-navigate hierarchical list organized by artist (which you also can have sorted by album or genre or by nothing at all). You can expand folders and double-click the songs there to hear them. Once you've browsed your music collection, PodUtil will copy it to your hard drive, organizing it as it goes.
Version 3.0.2 adds "Year" tag to Copy settings, includes new preferences and bug fixes.

Version: PodUtil 3.0.2
"Captures music, but not playlists or play counts"
Pros: The software downloaded all the songs from my ipod to the laptop. The copy settings feature allows you to determine whether the target folders on your PC will group the music by artist, album, or in other manners. The copy settings also allow you to customize the way that the files will be named in the folders. This was very useful.
Cons: I tried free version 3.0.2 on a Sony laptop with a 20 gig, 4G ipod that was about half full. The software is supposed to copy playlists and play counts. However, neither were copied. I tried several techniques, but couldn't get it to copy that information. Also, the free software has a pop-up message that pauses the download after every 50 songs, to ask whether you want to register the software by paying for it. It is annoying to have to stay by the computer and keep clicking this icon while downloading. I finally carried my computer with ipod attached to my couch and sat there clicking the pop-up while watching TV. The software never loaded more than a few songs into iTunes, despite the fact that I had checked the option to load the songs into iTunes. This isn't terrible, given that iTunes has easy import options. However, this might affect why the software didn't copy my playlists or playcounts. One other annoying feature is that each time I disconnected the ipod and then reconnected later to continue copying songs, the software ordered the songs in a different manner. So, it was difficult to determine what I had already copied and what was remaining to be copied. Several times, I accidentally copied the songs again, resulting in duplicate songs with different names in iTunes later. Fortunately, the album and artist titles copied okay, so I was able to delete the duplicate titles. However, this was a painful process even with my relatively small library.

Version: PodUtil 3.0.2
Pros: Very simple and thorough iPod back up program.
Cons: In the freeware version you are prompted to hit enter after the program copies 50 songs, every 50 songs. Not much of a headache though.
