This freeware utility creates time-sensitive alerts to notify users about new information on user-selected topics. Phonotic Alert Engine's dull interface runs in the background and can be accessed in the tools tray. The program offers a Load a New Alerter icon that opens up an online directory where users select from topics such as news, health, entertainment, and daily tidbits; however, creating customized alerts is difficult and requires a few visits to the help file. The program also gives users more control over their alerts with the ability to configure how, when, and in which format alerts are sent. Delivery options include email, SMS, or desktop reminders. This program may appeal to users who are looking for an easier way to stay up-to-date on specific topics and want to manage their alerts from one program.
