Personal Checkbook Advantage works just like a checkbook register. It was developed as an alternative to other freeware that just didn't quite cut it. Also, many people do not write checks any more and the checkbook register has become cumbersome having to handwrite all transactions. Personal Checkbook Advantage is user-friendly and designed to quickly add transactions into your register. It also helps you balance your register with your bank statement. No more adding up what hasn't been cleared. The Register screen shows you the uncleared bank balance. As a plus, the application keeps track of spending habits by setting categories to each transaction.

Version 1.27 fixes Vista issues.

Personal Checkbook Advantage offers to help users keep a digital checkbook and a permanent record of their transactions, but it's lacking some useful features and leaves much to be desired in the design department.

This freeware program has a basic interface that is so bare-bones it is a little difficult to navigate at first. With a short list of blue command buttons down the left side of the simple screen, users must choose between Register, Report, Setup, and Utilities. None of which sound much like checking options. Clicking on each showcases submenus of commands, most just as confusing. Once the commands are mastered, users can enter their checking balances for multiple accounts, mark down transactions, and run reports and graphs to monitor their spending habits.

Personal Checkbook Advantage does a fine job of storing all your checking data, but it is not without flaws. Aside from the confusing navigation, the program does not have an option to sync directly with your bank account, so you're still going to have to do some manual data entry. Overall, this freeware should only appeal to those who hate keeping a checkbook, but don't have online banking.

  "Terrific Basic Check Register Program!"

  Pros: It's basic, but exceptional user friendly. A simple records of your personal checkbook, this is it. Will categorize your expenses and income... quickly and efficiently. Report section is also user friendly and prints just what you need.

  Cons: Adding a new transaction, it would be nice just to "enter" into a new transaction, instead of having to "Alt-A". The addition of sub categories, i.e. "Gas", "Electric", "Water", etc. right under the main category of "Utilities".

  Summary: Finally, this is what i was looking for... I just need the simple basics of recording my personal finances. Don't need formal financial statement.. i.e. balance sheet. It's a no hassle, no frill program, that is quick and easy!! If you can us... read more >>

  "Does everything I need!"

  Pros: Categorizies spending
  Able to add in future entries (good since I am on salary pay)
  Auto save (you just close the program and it saves!)

  Cons: Nothing, I really haven't had any issues with this program at all.

  Summary: I love it, you are able to add in entries, move things around, categorize them... It does it all!

  "Great Product.Very simple to use, loaded with features."

  Pros: the feel of a checkbook, not alot extras, yet everything you need to maintain your checkbook. Several tracking features as well. I really like it. It's very easy to use.

  Cons: Would like to be able to print off just a portion of the register rather than the entire register. Would like to be able to remove fields from the register that I don't use. Would like to be able to open a portion of the register in word or excel.

  Summary: I would recommend this product. It has really helped me to keep track of my checkbook. I am forever losing my paper checkbook, and then forgetting what transactions took place. This helps me to be able to input them instantly.
