Publisher's Description
From FamilySearch:
Personal Ancestral File is a new Windows-based version of one of the most widely used genealogical management programs for home computers. The new software program can be downloaded free from the Internet. PAF does not provide genealogical data. Instead, it helps users organize their family history records. It can produce, either on screen or on paper, family histories, pedigree charts, family group records, and other reports to help users in their search for missing ancestors.

"Awesome Program for Beginners and Experienced Alike"
Version: Personal Ancestral File 5.2.18
Pros
So very simple to use!
GEDCOM files easily Imported & Exported.
Website Creator to place your work onlineCons
If I had to gig this program on something, it'd be the HTML Output. Though I like(!!) that it produces an easy HTML for you to upload to a hosting site, the resulting structure of the site is only OK and can be a bit confusing to navigate.
Summary
My original thinking was that I would build my genealogical file before joining a Pay-for-Use site like Ancestry.com®. But now that I've been working with this program, I have no interest in paying all that money (MAN is that an expensive site!) for what I've built on my own. And you have to be very careful what you find in the webosphere! I've found a lot of conflicting information about family members I've known personally, like wrong DOB's, DOD's and especially misspelled names.
Though I have a basic (more than beginner but far from! expert) knowledge of computers & web design, and never having done genealogy work before my father's passing in 2010, I found this program very detail oriented and totally simple to use. It takes a bit of use to get your head around it's logic (not unlike most any program) but it's very intuitive and now that I've been using it for about a year, I really think it's terrific! Though as referenced above, the website HTML output is only OK and am now looking for something else, that I can import my GEDCOM file, to produce a cleaner, less confusing website.
Regardless of that, the program is really terrific and simple to use. You just can't go wrong for the price (FREE!). And will be hard-pressed to find much better, even with the programs that cost you money. -
"If not the Best at what it does have yet to find better"
Version: Personal Ancestral File 5.2.18
Pros
Easy to use , simple straight forward user interface.
Great built in tools and links to resources.
Out performs any paid for software I have ever tried.
It is free.
I have been using since first version came out and even that one was good.Cons
Only one that I have is same for every one, needs a portable version so I can use at the library if I do not happen to have the laptop with me, a pocket keychain usb version that I could use from the machines in the library.
But that is more a wish than a con.Summary
You can not go wrong by using this product, it does what it was designed for in a very easy to use manner.

"Simple, easy to use; you'll never need another program!"
Version: Personal Ancestral File 5.2.18
Pros
It's so simple and easy to use, whether you're a beginner or advanced level genealogist. It's intuitive, with tools for all levels of user.
Cons
There hasn't been an update to this in a number of years. I wish they'd add a couple of things - a tag that would eliminate error messages for twins/triplets is the first one that comes to mind.
Summary
There are lots of genealogy programs out there. I've used more than a few. I *always* come back to PAF. It has virtually every tool I need, and my few complaints about the program are minor things that would just increase it's user-friendliness. It's very simple to get started, and doesn't lack for features for the advanced user that wants to create books, charts, and various reports. It allows you to create lists of sources, a virtually library, you can save pictures to an individual's entry; there are date calculators and relationship calculators. There's not a lot of extra, sometimes useless, fluff that comes with other genealogy programs. Every tool included is useful. Best feature of all? It's FREE and always has been.
