Publisher's Description
From Positive Spin Media:
Pandora is the media collector's web spider and search agent for Mac OS X. In the time it takes to grab a glass of water, Pandora is able to hunt down files by spidering a URL or performing a keyword-based search. A clear and intuitive interface guarantees you are underway in no time, and extensive preferences allow advanced users to flex their muscles. After a rapid search based on the given criteria, Pandora prepares a slideshow, providing you with a quick and comprehensive glance at hundreds of discovered files. It is an incredible tool for anyone interested in images, music, or video on the web, and is priced at just USD $29.95 for a Single license (USD $10 upgrade from Pandora 1.x).
What's new in this version: This release adds the ability to set a "start page" that is different from the Pandora help page that has traditionally shown when Pandora is launched. To set a different URL, simply go to Preferences > Settings and enter a URL. Leave it blank if you like the old start page. It is a free update for registered users.

"Great potential, but flawed and limited at the moment"
Version: Pandora 2.6.6
Pros
Fast results, lots of results, control of some filters (result size range, type, etc) and ability to enable/disable Google SafeSearch within the app
Cons
It's main selling point -- lots of results and multi tab searching -- gets you almost immediately blocked by Google for excesssive search requests. In addition the trial will only let you view 50 images per session (excluding thumbnails).
Summary
If search engines allowed this level of activity, and you could search the web through many more portals at once, this app would be near perfect. The only other missing element would be some further development of the advanced search features. The price is too high for me, although not bad for those who might use this professionally or at least daily. The free app gives you a good intro but is too limited to be of extended use (in my case, at least).

"Product and support excellent."

Pandora makes collecting images from the world wide web easy. I have looked at other software but Pandora seems unique in it's ease of use and successful image collecting. My special interest is in studying and learning to identify animals and plants. Pandora has allowed me to collect hundreds of images scattered about the internet to help this learning process. Over the years I have worked with Pandora (from it's creation) and developer John support has been excellent. As an example: a recent issue with the Google engine refusing to deliver was responded to immediately by John and corrected in a day with an update released in 4 days. All the best and thank you John. -

I've used Pandora (formerly Netscrape) for research purposes with great success. I've never experienced the hanging problems or crashes I read of in earlier reviews. I think it's key to play around with search terms, since that will impact on results very specifically. When I've scraped individual URLs, the program was quite thorough. Sometimes it does appear to halt arbitrarily, when one might expect that more material would be forthcoming from the Netverse, but what does get downloaded is almost always sufficient for my purposes, at least. It's a lovely program. -
"Like it, but needs stability."

Love the idea of Pandora, and really like it when it works, but find it crashes an awful lot. Doesn't mention anything about it being a universal binary or not, so maybe it's just because I'm using it on a Macbook Pro. Not sure.
Hope future updates fix my little problem, because this is a gem. -

This little app is outstanding, and the developer is very responsive to suggestions. It has helped me find all sorts of pics related to my interests without having to go through Usenet: specialty cars, photo equipment, animals, landscapes, etc. Hmmm, not a bit of that has anything to do with p0rn. -
"i like it!"

I like this program :) it lets me search for specific pictures and names. i have two "problems" with the program...
1. Some times it gets al the pictures and there are many that are duplicated on differant sites.
2. if it could search for videos...
I recommend it !

"Don't waste your money!!"

I like the idea of this program. However, it has a serious issue: It freezes more often than any program I have ever used (and I've used hundreds). Don't spend your money just to be frustrated. -
"Works beautifully. What am I missing?"

Read the negative reviews with interest, started to bag it, but decided to give Netscrape a try on my dual-processor G4 running Mac OSX 103.5. It loaded, launched, and when I keyed in "hammer" grabbed 162 images before I could say "enough already!" Selected one, Netscrape took me to the website very quickly, I grabbed the image, opened it, and there it was -- ready for me to use (after securing permission, of course). Think I'll risk the $15, which I'll save by foregoing the upgrade from Microsoft Office X to MicroMegabloat Office 2004 Professional. (Apples and oranges, for sure -- but so is much of life.) -

OK, I looked at behold, it's not the same type of product. Behold is a candy coated search engine to access google. This programs intention is intirely different. Let's say you are on a museum site and like a particular section that contains various pictures that are all distinct and different. You might get lucky and be able to search for the museum, or maybe the heading that your pictures are under, but then you still have to select each one and ugg... i'm not gonna go on. This program is intended for getting large numbers of pictures from specific pages... from any where. It also searches beyond the specific page, to other pages that are linked to it as well. This is the only working program of it's kind that i could find, which is why I was willing to pay the $15. (although it was a major decission. coming from various free programs on the windows OS, I wasn't happy to have to pay). But when demand is high, the price goes up. You can try your luck with the other program i found, but it simply did not work in any way. *hold on i have to search for it again, i can't even remember the name* *got it* Picturesucker, i tried it cause it was free, but if it doesn't work, what use is it? NetScrape is far more attractive, and far more affective than any other program of it's kind on mac. simply because at the moment, it is the only one of it's kind. Plus I talked to the author and there are some exciting features to come in the near future, try this program if you think what i described will suit your needs. -
