PRTG Network Monitor Free is an advanced, monitoring solution for your entire network. The software's features include: up or downtime monitoring, traffic and usage monitoring, packet sniffing, fail over clustering, in-depth analysis and concise reporting. A user-friendly web-based interface allows users to quickly auto-discover and configure the network devices and sensors they wish to monitor. Supported methods for acquiring network usage data are SNMP and WMI,Packet Sniffing, and NetFlow. It also offers SMTP/IMAP Roundtrip-Email Monitoring and VMware Monitoring, VoIP Monitoring, Toplists for Packet Sniffing and Netflow Sensors, as well as sensor aggregation using its built-in Sensor Factory.
PRTG Network Monitor includes more than 80 sensor types for all common network services (e.g. PING, HTTP, SMTP, POP3, FTP, SSH etc.), allowing users to monitor networks for availability, speed and failures. As soon as an outage occurs, alerts are sent via email, SMS, pager messages and other means. Request times and downtime are recorded in an internal database, making it easy to compile performance, downtime and SLA reports.What's new in this version: Version 9.2.0.2169 fixes breadcrumbs could display objects that were not accessible to the user.

Pros
The purchase price is low when compared to the main contenders in this area and a free version is offered.
Cons
The product was very non-intuitive and confusing, particularly when having to toggle between the GUI and Web Client. The addition of devices was not straight forward and there was limited support for importing settings from previous versions.
Summary
Overall I was dissapointed with the latest version of Network Grapher and although there appears to be increased functionality, it was difficult, if not impossible to effectively utilize this package. For the short term I will hold onto the 'Traffic Grapher' application and hope that it will continue to suit our needs.

"Could not log on"

It's a free program
Cons
I installed it and setup a user ID and password. However, the windows interface wold not work. Only the browser interface would work so I had to unsintall and reboot. Wonder why they don't have a login in option on the system tray icon. Oh well!

Easy to install and setup. Robust and resistive to intermittent signal variances. Good GUI interface to visualize activity without reading a bunch of tiny data
Cons
Would like to see more GUI view options. Graphics are much easier to see pertubations since most of us don't sit there and watch character data streams.
Summary
An excellant alternative to LAN magrs who have budget limitations or do not want/need complex server farm configurations. This is about as easy as it gets.
