Publisher's Description
From The Omni Group:
OmniOutliner is our tool for outlining and organizing thoughts, tasks, project components, and so on. Its simple and easy-to-use interface make it a very handy companion for tasks ranging from "Things To Do, Today" to software project planning.
What's new in this version:
- Several fixes for increased compatibility with Mac OS 10.2.x
- Several significant performance enhancements. The notes pane and window resizing, in particular, should both be much snappier.
- Calculated Summary cells are no longer editable - this caused confusion in the past. They also appear visually different than normal cells in OmniOutliner, but they print and export normally.
- OPML import and export is now supported.
- Added French (by Xavier Destombes) and Japanese (by Jo... See all new features

"Great outliner with attachments, subtotals, formatting"
Version: OmniOutliner 3.9.5
Pros
toss anything into the outline, you're good!
any number of columns with labels and data types
aggregation functions track running subtotals
"drill-in" or "focus" like omnifocus
works almost like a spreadsheet
extensive control of outline formattingCons
for a task manager, you may want OmniFocus instead
no easy way to pivot or regroup on alternate columns
default styles not the prettiest
may trick user into distorting non-tree data into an outline structureSummary
OmniOutliner is a terrific tool. I have used it for years. The ability to drag, drop, cut, paste anything is great.
It often feels like a spreadsheet with really useful grouping.
Very useful for exploring task breakdowns with rollups
whoa, nice ability to format! -

"Not cheap, but worth the price"
Version: OmniOutliner 3.0.1
Summary

OmniOutliner, at $40, isn't cheap. But it's well worth the investment - it's a great companion to a word processor, and I use it for all sorts of lists. I've never found another tool like it, so it was a no-brainer to pony up. -

OmniOutliner's columns provide an additional dimension the notebook apps lackâ??the resulting matrices provide a way of organizing & displaying information an order of magnitude superior to those that lack columns or tables. Still waiting for integration with OmniGraffle tho. -

Wow what a huge improvement to a great app.
I'm going to wait for OmniOutliner 3 Pro though. It will cost more but I'm a deluxe kind of guy.
Hope they release it soon. -

It blows everything else out of water. The new user interface is very nicely done and full of so many little details. Good job OmniGroup. -
"Badly broken under Panther."
Version: OmniOutliner 2.2.5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Just now I tried to log out of OS X Panther with an OO outline open. It put up a dialog asking me to save changes, cancel, or quit.
It is not responding now matter what button I hit.
I am going to have to kill OO and lose my changes.
OO is badly broken under Panther.
Another problem is that many operations seem to be on the order of 10 times slower under Panther than they were under Jaguar. If OmniGroup doesn't fix these issues VERY soon, I will have to migrate all my outlines to Circus Ponies Notebook.
Don't get me wrong, I love OO and have used it very happily for quite some time. It just isn't usable under Panther in this release.
