    Version: Nuance PDF Reader 7

    Pros

    Cons

installation was long and it made too much registry entries and installed some idiotic 'software updater' without asking during setup which wanted to update it after installation . It has only few useful functions for so big installation file.

"Failed to convert PDF to docx"

    April 14, 2012   |   By canthavethat

    Version: Nuance PDF Reader 7

    Pros

    Fine as a reader.

    Cons

Converted a pdf to to a docx, but converted file was corrupt and could not be opened. Repeated with same result. So not impressed with the converter, which was what I downloaded it for!

    Summary

    Uninstalled.

"Superior to Adobe Acrobat Reader on multiple levels."

    February 21, 2012   |   By djwhite077

    Version: Nuance PDF Reader 7

    Pros

Loads very fast...so much so that you don't even mind opening and closing it many times a day!!

    Cons

Would be nice if you could do at least some basic editing with it.

    Summary

I have used this instead of Adobe Acrobat Reader for several years now. There are features and things it will not do, but it is still far superior to Acrobat Reader....to include the fact that it load significantly faster. I also like the on-line conversion feature.

    "sooooo much better than adobe"

    February 11, 2012   |   By hmazuji

    Version: Nuance PDF Reader 7

    Pros

it works great (i'm using xp). i've never had any kind of issue with it.

    Cons

i haven't experienced a single one. i can't see how anyone could rate this software less than perfect. i haven't read the other reviews, so i can't domment on them.

    Summary

i am so dissatisfied with adobe for their twisted marketing strategies. nuance does everything i need a pdf reader to do, without obnoxious marketing gimmicks.

"I could not uninstall it by normal techniques."

    October 30, 2011   |   By will_not

    Version: Nuance PDF Reader 7

    Pros

I don't know. I simply wanted to uninstall the program--not to use it. See below.

    Cons

I tried to uninstall it in the same manner that I have sucessfully uninstalled hundreds of programs in the past. I get a window saying "Do you want to allow the following program to update the software on this computer?" It doesn't matter whether I click "yes" or "no" THE PROGRAM WILL NOT UNINSTALL.

    Summary

Now I am stuck with a program that I do not want on my computer.

"A reader with all features but installs extra software."

    July 24, 2011   |   By moonfern

    Version: Nuance PDF Reader 7

    Pros

The reader is comparable with foxit reader, you can search pdf documents or entire directories with pdf files for keywords. Search is really well implemented. You can also see layers, looks good too.

    Cons

Installs a program called software updater and doesn't notify you about it. This program has an autoruns entry and is meant for autoupdating the nuance software. You cannot uninstall it unless you uninstall nuance. It also place a shortcut on desktop

    Summary

It's good software but there are good alternatives. I really don't like software with sneaky behaviour. The autoupdater program is not from nuance but from this company: http://www.flexerasoftware.com. There's no uninstaller and what is more when you close that program, it doesn't exit it still runs in the background. (it becomes windowless). Nuance place a desktop shortcut without asking first and it's options are well rather limited. I didn't check if the program itselfs phone home, there are no privacy options in Nuance which is strange. Bottomline: It's good software but for me it's sneaky behaviour spoils it.

    What's new in version 7
    • Performs smarter searches: The intelligent Looks Like Search lets you quickly find content phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers--via an alphanumeric pattern rather than exact text. Use multiple-string searches to refine your search criteria and pinpoint exactly what you're looking for within a searchable PDF file.
    • View more content directly within PDFs: See more of your PDF files without ever leaving Nuance PDF Reader. Get better visibility into graphics by viewing each of the multiple layers created by programs like AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio. Or view rich media files, like Microsoft Silverlight, directly within a PDF.
    • Enhanced: Collaborate using PDF annotation: Nuance PDF Reader provides a rich set of annotation tools, letting you add comments and highlight, cross-out, or underline text for more effective collaboration. You can even create a condensed summary of all comments that have been added to a PDF document to see who added which comment and when.
    • Enhanced Security: Nuance PDF Reader also addresses a troubling PDF security issue found within some readers by giving users the option to prevent JavaScript installation. Preventing JavaScript installation creates a safer PDF environment for the end user and adds an additional safety net for IT professionals looking to safeguard their organizations. Hackers have used the PDF JavaScript vulnerability to gain control of a user's computer, exposing users to system attacks and the transfer of personal information simply by viewing infected PDF files. If needed, you now have the capability to turn JavaScript on easily during the installation process. What's more, you can store the digital ID certificates of your partners and colleagues in Nuance PDF Reader and use them to verify digitally signed documents.
