Oh so many cons! The major glitch with this program is that it can't handle a large PDF. If your working with anything over 10 GB FORGET IT. It takes forever to save the PDF, to insert/extract pages and if you try to click any where while its thinking it automatically freezes (its like a child throwing a tantrum). If it does freeze there is a good likelihood that it will freeze your computer and then you have to manually restart because everything on your PC is dead. And even after a restart you will still find your computer lag A LOT while dealing with any PDF.
If you are a normal person who just wants to add one or two pages or extract one or two pages, this is the tool for you. If you job requires you to work with bulky PDF documents this program will surely make you hate your life.
I can read PDF files. I can copy (they call it "snapshot" under select) any portion of a .pdf page (or the whole of the page) and paste it anywhere I want (like into a file using my photo program make a .jpg file. I can add text anywhere in the document I want.... to fill in scanned forms, etc. That is just about everything i do with .pdf files, and it is free now and forever, so this 'un is perfect for me. And I have found NO germs, viruses, or mal-ware anywhere in the download.
I haven't figured out how to white-out, if the software does it.... That would be neat, but I can live without the feature.
I have used Nitro Reader for several years on this Windows 7 computer.... recently lost my hard drive, and, in rebuilding its replacement, I couldn't remember the NAME of the Nitro software....??!?! I tried several other "free" programs and none can match Nitro Reader (which I finally found referenced in a SW review article). I do not need the features of the pro version, or I would pay the premium.... That makes the free Nitro Reader my go-to .pdf program.
Oops! I really messed up concerning one portion of my review above. While some do not consider adware tracking cookies as malware, I do. Suddenly after downloading Nitro Reader and running my SpyHunter malware cleaner a second time, I am told that I am infected with the following ad-ware cookies: Advert, Atlas, Burst Media, Media, and Zedo. Spy Hunter tells me that I am now free of the pests, but who knows. Fie be upon them!
Replaces Adobe Acrobat 7 or so. No limit to re-installs. You can sign, edit, markup, etc and create a "flattened" version no one else can alter, with undiminished resolution. That's even better than Acrobat. For free.
Um, can't think of much. Does all I want. There are a couple of things, for which you have to buy the Pro version, at less than 20% of the cost of the current version of Acrobat. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to do these numbers.
As good or better than any other PDF manipulator, and it is free. If you need the fancier functions, the paid version is relatively cheap and well worth the price. No wonder their customer list is a Who's Who of the Fortune 1000.
Allows typing text onto a PDF page. Using this app you can, for example, make entries onto a form that has been scanned into PDF and does not use Acrobat's fancy fill-in-the-blank fields.
Also provides a feature where you can scan or photograph your signature, then use it in Nitro PDF to "e-sign" documents. If you receive a PDF than you're supposed to return signed, this feature lets you accomplish that without having to print, sign, and re-scan the document.
I wouldn't mind having the ability to delete and move pages.
Is it possible that you keyed the wrong download button? I didn't go after a "free trial" when I downloaded Nitro Reader.... I selected the Free Download.... It came down immediately with no other harassing software hidden there in, set itself up, opened itself, and did everything I expedited it to do with my first two tries..... snapshot a portion of my .pdf file for pasting into a .jpg document, and successfully grabbing a "screen capture" for inserting into a .doc file. If you want a great free PDF reader, try again.
No spam, virus, or malware when I downloaded. I first downloaded Nitro Reader 4 years ago, with no problem then. Lost my hard drive and just downloaded again. My virus and mal-ware programs say it is ok... I see no added rubbish as I browse. I think Download.com's download of Nitro Reader is clean.
