The new Netscape Navigator takes a Firefox foundation, some neat Sidebar innovations, and an inside track to the Netscape.com social-networking and news site to create a browser that has some great features with minimal wonkiness.

Netscape.com is a huge part of the new Navigator: some new features might not be of interest if you don't hang out there. The Share button inside the address bar connects you directly to Netscape.com. Highlight content from the page and hit Share. The content becomes a summary, in a box that just needs a few tags to be submitted to the collective. Already-posted articles show Vote and Discuss icons instead of Share.

Bookmarks and History are self-explanatory sidebars, but a series of Netscape.com-related ones work well, too. Netscape Friends' Activity shows you what your friends have been doing, Netscape Tracker tracks the latest site updates, and Netscape News tracks only news posts. Non-Netscape.com users--a small, rebellious group, no doubt--will appreciate the Mini-Browser sidebar, which is essentially two tabs opened simultaneously, and the Link Pad, a savable URL notepad. Drag-and-drop adds a URL, clicking on the saved link opens it in a new tab. This is one of Navigator's new tricks that we love, but wish had more traditional notepad functionality. All Sidebar features have toolbar icons that you can add at will.

Most of the bundled features from version 8 have been removed. IE mode, integrated AOL IM, RSS reader, form filler, and security suite are gone, but the compatibility with Firefox 2 extensions and LinkPad more than make up for the loss. The innovations here might make this more than a backup browser.

Pros: This stuff 5 stars which is not enough. As it's smooth and solid..wont be hang even you open up to 4 pages on loading..(for me) 5MB lite enough. Pages loading fast..Is worth a try..

    Cons: so far none.

    "Impressively Improved."

    by Chainmail2006 on August 12, 2007

Pros: Finally, a "Netscape" browser thats fast, stable and easy to get along with. New add one and plug ins are coming all the time. Some "Firefox" add ons work with it. It has customizable tool bars and looks nice. Imported my favorites and home page from "Internet Explorer. It has a built in history cleaner. And because it's still based on "Firefox" I feel comfortable that it's a secure browser. This version of "Netscape" is the biggest step forward they have ever made.

Cons: I couldn't find a way to import my "Firefox" favorites and those are the ones I use most.

"By far the best Netscape browser..."

by PVTele on June 8, 2007

Pros: In many ways, this is like a faster, lighter Firefox, without, as far as I can see, the memory leaks. Delightful to look at, easy to use, and appears to be fully compatible with Firefox extensions (except the UK English dictionary for some odd reason) and search engine plugins.

Cons: Only one (very nice) theme available so far. Lots of Netscape specific bells and whistles - though they're easy enough to ignore, and the toolbar is fully customisable.

"In my eyes, better than FireFox"

by CrazyPigeon on October 19, 2007

Pros: Netscape does have some things away from FireFox, like the menus, it all looks the same like Mozilla Firefox.

For my feeling, netscape loads as quick as firefox, but more secure.

I've tested it on a website i know it was dangerous, but Mcafee blocks it.

So, i surfed to it with FireFox, and it tried me to download a virus.

But, Netscape didn't, i didn't noticed anything with Netscape. Netscape may be slower than FireFox, but it's more secure for my feelings.

    "Netscape Forever!"

by Jotts on June 11, 2007

Pros: It's been one of my top choices since the birth of Internet. You know, Netscape was the first EVER Web Browser realeased to the public(the rest were speacial like goverment). It helped the baby Internet develop a lot, being compatible with many web standards. And it so is now. It is the ONLY browser(I have used loads) that actually uses both the Firefox(Gecko) and Internet Explorer(Trident) layout engines, so is very compatible with almost all of the web pages. Its compability passes Internet Explorer's and Opera's compability(the big bonus). It is not very big ans has a very user friendly installation. It all comes for 6MBs.

Cons: It is not very fast when browsing the internet with Firefox Plug-Ins, and sadly, not a replacement for Opera, except you like its FANTASTIC compability with web pages.
