CNET Editors' review
With the a la carte online music store space becoming more crowded by the day, one-time bad boy Napster re-emerges as a label-endorsed gem. With a massive collection of tracks and some neat community features, this isn't the Napster you remember. The interface is clean, with large, easy-to-read buttons and tabs for searching different areas of the service. Browsing is extremely quick, with results showing up just moments after you initiate them. We liked the Charts feature, which lets you search Billboard charts all the way back to 1956, in addition to Napster's own charts. The jukebox works well, but seems limited in comparison to programs such as iTunes or MusicMatch, which have more mature features. Although Napster has several positives in its corner, there are more than a few quirks. For starters, Napster forces you to create a user ID and login just to browse music. There also is no support for the industry-leading iPod. Finally, we experienced random odd behavior from the application. Although Napster as a music service gets high marks for its extensive catalog and exclusive content, as an application it seems to still be finding its stride.

"Would not recommend subscribing to Napster"
Version: Napster 3.7.3.3
Pros
It's comparable to Yahoo Music Engine, but not as good.
(My Yahoo subscription runs out on April 08, and I wanted to try something new, so I subscribed to Napster in Sept b/c of their free mp3 player.)
Cons
1. The headphone connection doesn't work very well (tried my headphone on other machines, and it worked fine)
2. 9 out of 10 times, I had trouble moving tracks from Napster player into the mp3 player.
3. You can only "connect/disconnect" any 1 computer at a time, and 1 time a month only. As mobile as I am, and as many computers and laptops that I use. It's not for me.
4. Their service phone number is HORRIBLE. I tried about at least 5 times to get to a live person to complain is NOT possible. This is after I sent email to them, and didn't get an answer.

"Awesome"
Version: Napster 3.7.3.3
Pros
Imagine getting access to 5 MILLION songs whenever and where ever you want. Plus, you can put them on an MP3 player and listen your heart out. People that don't get this are living 10 years ago and still want to own music... why own something you're not going to dig in a couple of months anyway... might as well keep buying CDs that you can sell back when you're done with them. I love how people give them crap for their new model... people rent DVDs yet somehow don't think twice about sending them back to Netflix, why would you think you get to keep everything forever if you're just renting it? Last month, I downloaded about 6 new albums from the weekly new releases and then a couple of classics that I recalled from listening to Jack FM... 8 albums would be like $80 if you got them at the cheap price, more usually... plus, no sweat if I didn't dig every song on the album, was just trying them out anyway.

"I've had no problems at all; I don't expect something for nothing!"
Version: Napster 3.7.3.3
Pros
Napster has the best interface and best catalog of any subscription service. I tried Yahoo and some others to save money and they don't carry half of the cool underground garage rock and other music that Napster does. I came back. You get what you pay for. I don't understand all the whining. I've had no problems on my computer or with using the software. If you are looking for a subscription service so you can do unlimited listening at home or with a portable mp3 player, this is the best i've tried. If you're looking to steal music, look elsewhere.
Cons
None.

"Really Lame"
Version: Napster 3.7.3.3
Cons
It's not a free trial, really. You still have to pay $1 per song. Also, even if you buy the music it doesn't get put onto your computer. Thus what is the point of downloading it? You get charged way too much for a scam. It's really lame.
