With the a la carte online music store space becoming more crowded by the day, one-time bad boy Napster re-emerges as a label-endorsed gem. With a massive collection of tracks and some neat community features, this isn't the Napster you remember. The interface is clean, with large, easy-to-read buttons and tabs for searching different areas of the service. Browsing is extremely quick, with results showing up just moments after you initiate them. We liked the Charts feature, which lets you search Billboard charts all the way back to 1956, in addition to Napster's own charts. The jukebox works well, but seems limited in comparison to programs such as iTunes or MusicMatch, which have more mature features. Although Napster has several positives in its corner, there are more than a few quirks. For starters, Napster forces you to create a user ID and login just to browse music. There also is no support for the industry-leading iPod. Finally, we experienced random odd behavior from the application. Although Napster as a music service gets high marks for its extensive catalog and exclusive content, as an application it seems to still be finding its stride.

Version: Napster 2.5.1.4
"Not bad, but could be better"
Pros: One location to easily search for the music you need. Very handy, and very cool.
Cons: Napster is not the same beast that it used to be. Now it is a pay only service like the iTunes shop that really strengthens the stranglehold that they record industry has around us user's necks. The sad part is that for buying music online, you'd think it would be much cheaper due to the fact that you do not get anything physical for the purchase. Everyone agrees that $20 for CDs is an absolute rip off. But even at half the price for MP3s; its still not worth it.
Get a file sharing program, and get your money money's worth from the record industry.

Version: Napster 2.5.1.4
Cons: Today's Napster is absurd.
How many business models make you connect back to the parent to use an item you've PURCHASED? Do you have to connect to CocaCola before you can open that can of Coke? No. Do you have to connect to Toyota before the car'll start? No. There's no other business following this absurd model.
Music purchased on Napster won't play
(1) if you're not connected to the Net
(2) if you're not connected to Napster with Napster's cookie
(3) if you've changed computers.
I keep my music on a 200 gByte external drive and recently purchased a new PC. Everything transferred over just fine except the songs I PURCHASED through Napster. These wouldn't play until I put the new PC online and ran the "Sync" tool at the Napster site. Even after that, I now get a pop-up containing the cryptic and case-weird message "License Acquisition Project page to upgrade to Premium." And of course, the music I've PURCHASED through Napster still won't play.
Don't waste your money with them.

Version: Napster 2.5.1.4
Pros: Decent Collection
Cons: Your paying double what you do on I-Tunes, $15 a month & your renting the tunes unless you pay 99 cents each. They give you a discount if you buy alot but don't fall for the scam. If you want to burn you have to pay. But hey if you want to pay $15 to play tunes on your MP3 go for it, just realize the moment you cancell this little shell game you can't access your tunes. TOTAL SCAM!!!

"Not bad, but don't use Napster To Go"
Pros: Lots of songs to choose from, good interface, can transfer to portable devices or CD without problems.
Cons: Napster to go is just bad. You have to use certain MP3 players, and if that isn't bad enough, you are NOT buying the music from them. You are simply renting it from them as long as you are paying them money. Once you stop and end your membership on Napster to go, the music will not be available to you. I suggest to buy the music for $.99 outright and you keep it forever.
