Version: Microsoft Office Professional 2010 beta
"I can't finish my review"
Pros: Can't say just yet.
Cons: Can't say just yet
Summary: A couple of months after I decided to become a beta tester for MS Office Professional 2010 Beta, I had a computer problem and had to re-format my hard drive and re-load everything.
Well I go to my email from Microsoft with my beta key and instructions on where to go to download the program again. And here are the exact words from that email.
Need to re-download the Beta software? Simply go to the Account Management Console at any time.
So that is exactly what I try to do, and if you click that link it takes you here http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ which is where you can download a short trial version of Office 2010I even tried to use my key to see if that would help and it did not recognize the key at all.
So I started sending out emails because I had put a lot of effort and work into testing. I have been testing beta products for Microsoft for many years now. All the way back to 1990 when they opened their first IRC chat rooms, I was one of the first MSN chat room hosts, and that is what leads to my testing all sorts of Microsoft products over the years.
This is the first time that anything like this has ever happened. I started getting replies to the emails I sent out, and out of 10 different emails not s single person had ever heard of an Account Management Console. And explained to me that as far as they knew all of the beta software had already been removed from any of the download links I had.
I have always enjoyed testing beta products, but if this is the way that Microsoft is going to do things now and what I mean by that is just a couple of months after we all started testing all of a sudden all of our support was gone, and more importantly none of us would be able to get another copy of MS Office Professional beta.
I have spent hours looking in my spare time trying to find Ms Office Pro Beta 2010 anywhere on the net and it is simply not out there anymore.
If anyone happens to know of anywhere at all that I can get another copy of the software please feel free to let me know, I would love to continue testing it, and write up a really good and informed evaluation.
Regards,
Terry White
PS. I did go ahead and give it 3 stars because what little of it I got to test and use I liked very much. -

Version: Microsoft Office Professional 2010 beta
"Better than 2007"
Pros: The biggest improvement is the customization of the ribbons. It's still not perfect but much better. As a trainer, I have found that newbies and minimal users have an easier time with the new interface because everything is in front of them.
Cons: On Access beta, it is still imposible to customize the ribbons for forms or reports you have created, I am hoping this is improved by the full versions. The beta help is AWFUL. Hopefuly that also improves with the actual release.
Summary: Once I got used to the change I liked 2007 EXCEPT Access. None of the db I had created in previous versions converted comfortably to 2007 and the ribbons gave users access to too much and put all custom toolbars on the Add-ins. Now with 2010 I can create a ribbon for the things I want them to use, hide all the stuff that I don't want them near but unfortunately need to open the db in 2003 to create a forms toolbar that will appear on the Add-ins tab. Part of me is hoping they fix this before the release.
For the rest of 2010, the ribbons are now on Outlook, OneNote and Publisher and just as with Word, Excel and Ppt in 2007, once you get the new logic, I think it is acutally easier. I still need to hunt for some things, particularly the advances tools of Excel like solver and I am really hoping that the help will be much better in the real version.
My bottom line as a trainer and access programmer is that if you have older, low level users on 2003, stay with it as long as possible because they will have problems since they are not generally comfortable learning new things. If you are working with young users, brand new users, 2010 offers a lot more options particularly with pictures and formatting. The new styles in Word are a lot easier. -

"Stay away...terrible problems"
Pros: None....it caused endless problems and can not be removed!
Cons: Installed on Vista 64 bit system..now have all sorts of printing problems...tried to switch back to 2007 and it will not uninstall. Can not re install 2007! Terrible product..just wish it would go away!!
Summary:
Still trying to get rid of this....no help to be found on Microsoft's site.

Version: Microsoft Office Professional 2010 beta
"It is a big improvement from office 2007"
Pros: There is now a ribbon interface in all of the suites inside Office.
Cons: I don't like the fact that OneNote is not compatible with OneNote 2007.
Summary: I think that Office 2010 is a big improvment to experienced user but a little difficult for new users

Version: Microsoft Office Professional 2010 beta
"Not Much Change from 2007"
Pros: Nice interface, Seems to run quickly
Cons: Still seems a little complex for new users, doesn't appear to be much change from 2007
Summary: I just installed 2010 beta, but from what i can tell, microsoft has greatly improved the look and feel of the programs, while still keeping an element of the 2007 version. Overall, I'm very pleased with what I have seen so far.

Version: Microsoft Office Professional 2010 beta
"2010 OfficeProPlus (OPP) is noticeably FASTER than 2007"
Pros: 1. Every program I have tried appears to operate faster, in 32 & 64.
2. After working 4 years with the damned ribbon, its functionality now appears to be nearly as intuitive as the toolbar it abandoned.
3. I experienced no installation problems.Cons: Sharepoint (S>P) appears ideal for creating networks. First use, I tried to use S>P to connect all my XP-Vista-7 PC, b4 including friend's PCs, but is too easy to screw up for a first time user. First time use took my PC offline. I need a S>P Server.
Summary: I had to uninstall WIN7-UP, reinstall WIN7-UP, and reinstall OPP 2010 Beta because I did not use a virtual environment for testing. After second installation, OS is stable, OPP is stable, pursuing eLearning from Microsoft, and will be designating a S>P Server before adjusting SharePoint again.
I have worked with Windows since 3.1 (1986) and Office since 1997.
Conclusion: Installation + speed of operation in 2010 OPP Beta is easier than 2007. -

Version: Microsoft Office Professional 2010 beta
"Fresh interface but troublesome installation"
Pros: This 2010 version has a fresh cosmetic look.
Cons: After I uninstalled my 2007 version and rebooted, I installed the 2010 beta. It took about 20 minutes to install. Previous versions I have installed usually would install in about 5 minutes.
Summary: I have been using Microsoft Office since the 1997 version both at work and home and have always upgraded each time a newer version is made available. In my opinion, those using the 2007 version will not notice much of a difference except its new look. Because of this, it is very unlikely I will upgrade to the 2010 and instead will wait for a major upgrade the next time around. During installation it never asked me for the key provided to me by Microsoft. Upon launching the application it warned me that the activation failed and when I clicked on "change product key" it did nothing. Nevertheless, it allowed me to work with the various components of this office suite. In all honesty, I was disappointed in finding that there was no major change from its 2007 version. I see no justification and no valid reason to spend money on this newer version when the final product is released.

"it is wonderfull i will enjoy working with office 2010"
Pros: the back up, and its generlly work, the environment and the images posting
Cons: it is too advance, a lay man cannot understand it within the shortest possible time
Summary: in the one hand i like it because i am a professional and like challenges in my life, and in the other hand it will not be good beginners.
