This utility stunned us with its ease of setup and use. MaxiVista can link up to four PCs via a network connection, turning those monitors into a single, contiguous space. We installed the software on two LAN-networked computers, and it just worked, without requiring us to mess around with IP addresses. As you drag a window beyond one PC's screen, it immediately emerges on the second. Each PC can devote a window or the entire screen to the shared space. You can remotely configure resolution, color depth, and image orientation, making it possible to use displays that are considerably different from one another. We noticed no slowdowns on either computer (each a Pentium 4, 2GHz, 512MB RAM), though the program puts a heavy strain on system resources. In sum, MaxiVista's flexibility and numerous options make it even more convenient than a two-monitor cable. Workgroups will rejoice.Publisher's description
From Bartels Media :MaxiVista turns any spare laptop or tablet PC into a second monitor for your primary PC. Program windows can be extended across both PC's screens, while the programs are still all controlled from the primary PC. Simply connect up to four PCs via Ethernet, a wireless LAN, FireWire, or a USB network, and enjoy giant desktop real estate of up to 7680x1600 pixels. The extra desktop space helps to avoid switching back and forth between overlapping windows. Additionally, MaxiVista allows to control up to four PCs with a single mouse and keyboard of the Primary PC. Just drag the mouse cursor to the PC you wish to control. MaxiVista also can mirror the display contents of your primary PC to any other PC via a network connection without signal loss. MaxiVista is based only on software. No need to buy graphics cards, monitors, or keyboard mouse switches.
Version 2.0.16 adds new screen resolutions for the extended screen and solves hibernation/stand by issue.

"Easy to setup, but uses bandwidth."
Pros: This is a great program because it allows you to use another computer (Such as a laptop, like i'm using right now) as a secondary monitor. It's easy to setup, and it adds another monitor to your Display settings, just like having dual monitors. Great for doing something on your main screen, and then maybe surfing the web on your secondary screen.
Cons: Using the second screen for something "Real Time" (Like watching a movie or playing a game) is TERRIBLE because since MaxiVista transfers the data over your network to the other PC, it eats up bandwidth, and becomes very laggy.
