This freeware app offers users a convenient way to find just about any location, but some limitations mar its usefulness. Local Search is offered online as a Microsoft Gadget, and doesn't install directly to your PC. In many ways it's similar to Google Maps, allowing you to enter business types or specific addresses and offering a map or satellite photo view. But this app adds a few extras. In addition to driving directions, you can look up information for events, gas prices, movies, and traffic for locations. More often than not, however, we received the message that no results were returned with every category except Events. Unfortunately, the events weren't current and didn't prove very useful. Unlike Google Maps, you can't save searches or results. Also, folks with older machines might experience some system sluggishness, as Local Search consumes a rather large amount of RAM. This freeware gadget shows promise, but doesn't prove to be better or faster than other online map resources.

Find what you looking for: from parking near the big game to that little restauraunt in Italy. First, enter "what" your looking for. Second, enter "where" you'd like to find it. Hit the search button and you'll be taken to a map that shows your results.
