From its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications. The 4.0 series further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.

On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses some snazzy new icons and a few new features, including a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now sports a progress bar, and file information--such as artist and album--is more clearly displayed. The improved network performance gave us considerably more search results than previous versions and a more reliable downloading experience (for a P2P client, that is). This latest version also feels more nimble despite its inherently resource-heavy Java-based foundation. We like the What's New feature, which lists files recently added to the network. The check box to filter out adult content also is a nice touch.

The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire to date. Despite the typical performance flaws found in all file-sharing clients, this latest version continues to offer solid performance and good looks across the board.

    Version: LimeWire 4.14.10

"Over 123 Million Downloads, What do you think?"

by Vardanai on November 3, 2007

Pros: To me now its clear that Limewire is the best P2P program there is. Limewire comes up at least 4,000 results on popular music and can raise up to 150,000 results (I know this from experience). You can find many things on Limewire such as Audio, Video, Documents. . . There is many programs that are clones of Limewire such as Frostwire, Freewire, Lemonwire. . . but Limewire is the best because it's infection-free which means it has no spyware, no adware, no virus, no trojans, no dialers, nothing annoying or harmful. The updates on Limewire are big most of the time, yet small other times. You can share anything you want on Limewire. There is this feature on Limewire I think it's called "Direct Connect" which allows you to connect to a user that is on Limewire for example: If your friend did homework and wants to share it to you, all you do is put in his/her IP address and port number, browse him/her find the file and download it. Limewire also lets you download/share images. There are so much settings and options that you can configure in Limewire which are easy and understandable. From a scale of 1 - 10 for speed I would give Limewire an 8. But for safety purposes and overall I'd give Limewire a 9. Limewire lets you chat with other users in that network and you can send them messages so if you download something and it's confusing you can ask the person you downloaded from by right-clicking and pressing on "Chat with user". The highest speed I had for Limewire was about 315 kb/s (I have cable connection). The average speed I get for Limewire is about 55 - 85 kb/s. Limewire has been doing a good job and just recently they added a more secure encryption service which is like a firewall on Limewire. Limewire has more than 25 million users on each day around the world. You can change the language on Limewire to about 30 other languages. Limewire is very easy to use for people who are new to the P2P networking system.

Cons: Although there is a lot of good things about Limewire, there is very few negatives about it. There is a lot of music spam in it, so make sure that if you're downloading music the file should always be higher than 999 KB. Also, make sure not to download any of those stupid spamming virus files like "Top of the charts 200." "Britney Spears gets pranked." For those who are interested in videos make sure not to get MOV "Quicktime format" files smaller than 20,000 KB. Limewire has a lot of adult content so make sure to hide those by configuring it in the settings for those who have children. Limewire also carries some illegal files such as passwords, so be careful.

    Version: LimeWire 4.14.10

"Tell The RIAA Where It Can Go"

by Stefan. on October 8, 2007

Pros: Searching for songs is easy and safe. Also, all of the songs are free.

Cons: Like all P2P software, you must make sure to have security software.

"OMG I got my 1st trojan!"

    by sheba94601 on November 30, 2007

Pros: lol, actually 2 trojans but nothing beats Limewire & BitTorrent! Limewire is still my baby. Weve been using Limewire for a l-o-n-g time daily to download muzik & never once caught a virus or trojan. Last night I downloaded my 1st software file & finally got hit but luckily I always scan before opening shareware files. I eventually got what I wanted. Jus tried Bit torrent last night & it's running neck to neck w/ my baby so I'm keeping both, un installed the rest!

Cons: I wish it was like Bit torrent on the protection side & lesser cr-p, spamming, but hey it's the best thing for muzik!

    "Great Program! I love it!"

by Nuke Baby on December 10, 2007

Pros: I have been using Limewire for several years now. I thinks it's much better than Kazaa, Morpheus, and Audio Galaxy were. It offers you many filters, and it works great if you have a high-speed ISP. Make sure you know how to set up Limewire. Make sure you are not sharing any files you want kept private. Set up your filters properly, and you'll be fine.

Cons: You are at the mercy of other users and the scum at the MPAA/RIAA who plant bogus files . Too many people share mis-labeled songs or disguise porn links as legitimate files.
