From its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications. The 4.0 series further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.
On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses some snazzy new icons and a few new features, including a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now sports a progress bar, and file information--such as artist and album--is more clearly displayed. The improved network performance gave us considerably more search results than previous versions and a more reliable downloading experience (for a P2P client, that is). This latest version also feels more nimble despite its inherently resource-heavy Java-based foundation. We like the What's New feature, which lists files recently added to the network. The check box to filter out adult content also is a nice touch.
The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire to date. Despite the typical performance flaws found in all file-sharing clients, this latest version continues to offer solid performance and good looks across the board.

Publisher's description
From LimeWire :LimeWire 4.9 automatically upgrades Windows users who don't have Java 1.4.1 or higher to Java 1.5, which runs faster and is more visually appealing. UPnP-enabled (Universal Plug and Play) routers are detected and automatically configured for optimal performance. LimeWire also offers the ability to search for Creative Commons and Weedshare licensed files. Licenses, once looked up, will be displayed in the library and search results. Also, of course, LimeWire continues its guarantee of no adware or spyware.
LimeWire is the world's fastest P2P file-sharing application, letting users share and search for all types of computer files, including movies, pictures, games, and text documents. The application's other features include dynamic querying, the ability to preview files while downloading, advanced techniques for locating rare files, and an extremely intuitive user interface.

Version: LimeWire 4.9
Pros: LimeWire is still the best P2P file sharing program on the internet. Grokster is history, iMesh is worthless, now, and Morpheus is loaded adware and spyware. LimeWire is 100 percent free, shows no ads, and is adware-spyware free! Ad-Aware, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, XoftSpy, Microsoft AntiSpy, and Spybot, all find ZERO infections in LimeWire! You can run searches in 6 different catagories at the same time, and download about 50 items at the same time,(music, videos, and software). On my Windows XP SP2, with broadband 1512 kbs, I can download 20 popular tunes in less than ONE minute! The search results are huge, and the downloads are lightning fast. LimeWire is the greatest and I highly recommend it, and give it 5 Stars and Two thumbs UP!

Version: LimeWire 4.9
Pros: Has a simple and intuitive interface. New features like seperate folders for saving each type of file, and new file management system are very useful. It returns more search results, and it shows fast download speed. The new file management system is very useful since it prevents mix-ups with files, especially when you download a lot of files with different types. It is COMPLETELY malware free. It has a lot of features which are very functional. It is also free! But then, the PRO version works much better.. so get it now!
Cons: It is a java app, so it requires the JRE to be installed in the computer. Java apps also require more RAM, so if you only have 256MB of RAM or lower in your PC, you can expect the program to work a bit slowly.

Version: LimeWire 4.9
"has everything the average file-sharing user is looking for. But ..."
Pros: ... If you are looking for more then just MP3s, i suggest you try using a program called Morpheus or BearShare. This has great results for MP3s, but bugs you a lot about how illegal this is, BearShare & Morpheus have faster downloads.
No Spyware, Adware or popups.
Cons: Poor video and application search.
Less search results compared to Morpheus & Bearshare.
Bugs you that the file is illegal when downloading.
Soon to block all copyrighted files.

Version: LimeWire 4.9
Pros: I have been using LimeWire for almost 2 years now, and I wouldnt think of switching to anything else, but I still say Shareaza is also a great P2P program.
This version has great improvements on speed and search results, averaging at 100 kbps for my downloads =)Also the uPnp feature is very helpful, saves time setting up my router for it =)And it still installs absolutely no adware/spyware/malware!
Cons: be careful, because in all P2P apps you could get viruses and spyware from the files you download if you're not.
