From its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications. The 4.0 series further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.
On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses some snazzy new icons and a few new features, including a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now sports a progress bar, and file information--such as artist and album--is more clearly displayed. The improved network performance gave us considerably more search results than previous versions and a more reliable downloading experience (for a P2P client, that is). This latest version also feels more nimble despite its inherently resource-heavy Java-based foundation. We like the What's New feature, which lists files recently added to the network. The check box to filter out adult content also is a nice touch.
The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire to date. Despite the typical performance flaws found in all file-sharing clients, this latest version continues to offer solid performance and good looks across the board.

Publisher's description
From LimeWire :LimeWire 4.8 automatically upgrades Windows users who don't have Java 1.4.1 or higher to Java 1.5, which runs faster and is more visually appealing. UPnP-enabled (Universal Plug and Play) routers are detected and automatically configured for optimal performance. Version 4.8 also offers the ability to search for Creative Commons licensed files and to look up Creative Commons information if it is available on files. Licenses, once looked up, will be displayed in the library and search results. And of course, LimeWire continues its guarantee of no adware and no spyware.
LimeWire is the world's fastest P2P file-sharing application, letting users share and search for all types of computer files, including movies, pictures, games, and text documents. The application's other features include dynamic querying, the ability to preview files while downloading, advanced techniques for locating rare files, and an extremely intuitive user interface.

Version: LimeWire 4.8
Pros: No adware/spyware!!! I know it doesn't have any! Always very fast! In downloading and in searching!!! I've been using it since version 4.0.7! It's so great that I got the Pro!!!
Cons: Well, I believe it doesn't have spyware or adware. But eTrust PestPatrol detected it as one. I don't believe PestPatrol because I got warnings from a lot of people that it has lots of false alarms. No matter what, I'll continue to use LimeWire. I have Pro anyway.

Version: LimeWire 4.8
Pros: Limewire is super fast. If you have broadband you can download 10 popular songs in about one minute, total, at the same time. Also software, documents and videos. You can even download full length movies, but they take much longer. You can run 6 diferent searches at the same time, with 6 diferent topics, or artists. It shows no ads, but it might have minimal spyware(tracking cookies). Spysweeper, Spyware Doctor, and Adaware, feel it is safe. They are the three best (in my opinion), but BP Spy Remover, Pest Patrol, and SpyCleaner Gold, think it is spyware and will remove Limewire in their scan. I know this from experiance, because I have all six of those in my arsenal. I have to agree with the top three and and feel Limewire is safe and the best . I recommend it and give Limewire 5 stars and two thumbs up!

Version: LimeWire 4.8
Pros: worked well for dl's
Cons: Problem is it seems this clone is way from efficient at maintaining a clean product bqckground. Updates seemed to ad advertisements to my browsers. This product was neutralized by adware spyware se's popup blocker and ms blocker when tested. Other errors did occur including loss memory and slow internet connections when left on prolonged periods.

Version: LimeWire 4.8
Pros: Limewire really is the best when it comes to file-sharing programs. It finds results the fastest, and has the most reliable connections. This latest version holds the downloads the best so far of any version I've used. Limewire connects to more peers for more results. Since Morpheus's decline, this program has taken over as the best P2P available. It works wonderfully even on slow connections. It also has the useful direct connect ability, so if you have a friend that has a file that you want, and you both are online, you can connect directly to your friend and get it.
Cons: I can't seem to find anything wrong with this yet. It really works great. Give it a try!
