From its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications for Mac. The latest version further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.
On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses some snazzy new icons and a few new features, including a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now sports a progress bar, and file information--such as artist and album--is more clearly displayed. The improved network performance gave us considerably more search results than previous versions and a more reliable downloading experience (for a P2P client, that is). This latest version also feels more nimble despite its inherently resource-heavy Java-based foundation. We like the What's New feature, which lists files recently added to the network. The check box to filter out adult content also is a nice touch.
The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire to date. Despite the typical performance flaws found in all file-sharing clients, this latest version continues to offer solid performance and good looks across the board.

Version: LimeWire Beta 5.0.11
Pros: Some nice changes. Glad they added a proper chat feature. :)
Cons: I agree with the other user responders earlier, missing information & tools that we all previously enjoyed using. Only gives 10 download slots, whereas previous versions were unlimited. (Unless you backed up a copy of old preferences :p)
Summary: A nice start to a new version, however obviously needs more work. Not sure why they made a beta version the official release. Leave the beta versions for the beta testers & give us the fixed version final releases. :) Images window good but lack... read more >>

Version: LimeWire Beta 5.0.11
"Lime wire 5 Still Need More Improvements"
Pros: The search results are better, even though it still display junk, but not as bad as in 4.18.8
Cons: Doesn't always upload search results, for example an artist and only now and then it crashes, and i don't like the interface as it is to complicated to use and there is no user Evolvement like as in the 4.18.8.
Summary: The interface can do with some changes it's too dull, compare to the classic. And the upload feature can do with some work also by eliminating junk permanently and the player need to be more visible than it is now, as in the classic. But it's good ... read more >>

Version: LimeWire Beta 5.0.11
"Needs Work, Stick with Classic for Now."
Pros: Easy to use, and some downloads connect more often than with version 4. Social networking features are nice for those who enjoy that sort of thing (not really my thing though).
Cons: An impressive number of glitches, crashes frequently, dumbed down interface, disappearance of features and many preferences options.
Summary: New version, does not mean better. While there are some improvements, they do not outweigh the new program's detriments.
The biggest problem are the frequent crashes. You can expect that if you leave the program running for a several ho... read more >> -

Version: LimeWire Beta 5.0.11
Pros: easy to use, not too much else that's different
Cons: you have no access to the preferences menu when you're using a mac, a major minus as you can't change a thing about the program. Can't ask a question about the new program without paying for pro, which gives very few bonuses for the money you pay
Summary: not worth it right now... I might try it again when they release a newer version but for right now I'm sticking with Limewire Classic
