    Version: Libellus Personal Library 1.2b

    "Very useful"

    by john_j_wall on August 19, 2007

Pros: I find it reasonably easy to use although if an ISBN isn't recognised I try several times before giving up - the reviewer above who couldn't get the online features to work may not have tried this. The developer has a forum where problems/suggestions can be posted. I'd recommend any user contribute to this.

Cons: Some ISBNs aren't recognised but these can be posted to the developer's forum.

    "Good useful tool"

by mastrona on July 19, 2007

Pros: If you want an easy way to load your personal library, and track who you loan books out to, this is a perfect tool.

The software was very easy to use...and the ISBN feature worked great, even with some older books I had. It took me roughly about an hour to enter 25 books of which about 5 failed to be found via the search. This is a MAJOR time savings over typing in all the titles and authors. The search also gave other information (page numbers, summaries, avg used price) that I wouldn't have typed in on my own.

The loan feature is helpful, especially to those who willing share their books with others and forget whom they are loaned to. Its easy to use and simple to get started.

Cons: This is just a simple catalog of books. Reporting is simple (limited to what you have filtered and displayed on the screen). No advance functions or filters are available. But more over, there is no export function to a csv, or txt file which would have been very helpful.

"Straighforard, simple but sadly online functions did not work for me"

    by MND_Malvern on July 1, 2007

Pros: ISBN adding of my book collection is what attracted me in the first place, sad then that the online data recovery function did not work.

Indeed I could key in all the fields and save the book manually, and it is possible to have a number of libraries and then merge them into one larger collection - for example by general subject area - fiction, non-fiction, biography.

The data entry pages are not clear in the format for data entry - is the ISBN to be without spaces, spaces, or hyphens? Who knows?

Cons: Lack of context sensitive help and guidance. Main benefit is to clarify the ISBN data entry fields. Ofer a manual test function of the internet link to where this database is tryign to extract the book data from, that way users can check if they have a workign link or local pc / software problem.
